those BOVs get old , fast , i had one on my car for 2 weeks (was a friends on loan while he got cash for IC piping) and it was too loud and brought too much attention. You can get them off www.nissansilvia.com from a few people for $250+ used. Fitting will be around $150 as a custom flange will need to be made up if the proper one isnt supplied.

Retail price is about $590 something.
I bought one of ebay new for $350, picking it up today.
The sound is definately unique, but the ones i've heard haven't been that loud??? I was under the impression they were one of the quieter valves... although most of you seem to think differently...

Theres also an adaptor available to make it plumb back. The HKS item appeals to me due to it beable to handle high boost without leaking.

what other bovs can handle high boost without leaking? I was looking at the simple low end bovs from turbo smart and gfb, but i am unsure of their quality.

Hmmm.... got mine sitting in front of me now. They look very well made.
On second thoughts, the ones I have heard do sound "loud", but are somehow less intrusive than the standard type.

Yeah wanted it fitted to an RZ.
Hhmm ive heard a couple of them also but wanted the flutter sound .But I heard you have to buy the fins optionally ?
Another option is the Greddy Type-S blow-off valve.
Anyone know where I could buy and install these ?

The flutter will only happen when backing off from low throttle/boost/revs... not 100% which of these is the correct term, but this is definately the case with all types of blow off valves, not just the ssqv.
Under full load an ssqv is more like a squeak/rapid flutter, and this can be changed by using the other fines (i think they are differentiated by colour? like a purple one?)

ssqv isnt the best on the market
even the sard r2d2 can hold big boost
and i belive the greddy type s isnt that good.. the type R is a better unit

The HKS SSQ only makes noise if you set it up to vent to atmo! There is a recirculating kit available.

Haha a lot of people hate the SSQV sound don't they?
Personally I have seen and heard them on a few cars in particular that have made me fall in love with them.
The best one was at about 4:30 am driving home dead tired on Mains Rd (Brisbane), and heard this beast of a car approaching from the other direction, shifted up 2 or 3 times. Then it came into view... an unearthly sounding r32 gt-r. Passed me doing at least 150+ and backed off, letting out a long, drawn out fluttler from the SSQV...
Nothing like the sound of SSQV in the morning...
Haha, sorry for the random post...

A google search will turn up some .wav's... there are a fair few around, just can't remember the links sorry.
The wav's are dodgy tho, can't hear anything, and what you can hear sounds nothing like a real one. For some reason the recordings just don't pick up on the noise.
