Has anyone had problems with their bearings going in a 4a motor?
Also, does anyone know how good the standard oil pump is?

what brand bearings did u use?
did u just go to repco and ask for standards?
toyota crank bearings come in 5 grades on standars... and 3 grade for the rod bearings...
so aftermarket ones are hardly ever correct off the shelf. that could be your problem. otherwise id be looking for an assembly fault or incorrect tolerances.
the stock oil pumps are fine up too around 9500rpm

bearings should never touch anyway, so sounds like an oil supply problem.
pressure relief valve stuck open? oil galleries blocked?

I'm running an oil filter relocation kit and a cooler. I thought that might cause a problem cause there might not be enough pressure??
other than that i just don't know why it happened again. It happened to my original standard big port and now to my gte.
Oh, and the bearings are a better aftermarket brand. not sure what though? so it should have been ok! obviously not

might be good to double check a few things... the oil pressure circuit, are you bleeding too much off? doe the relocator have the overpressure relief for the bypass flow to the cooler? or is the cooler in series with the filter?
if stock 4AG's work fine, and your doesn't, then your deviation from stock seems to be a likely culprit

Have you had your flywheel and crankshaft balanced?
If not then they could be off balance and could be a factor contributing to your bearing failure.

And no, i wasnt giving it a hard time. I was just running it in. Low boost, low revs. I spent a lot of time and money so i wasnt in a hurry to blow it up. and it still runs the stock sump. Why would that effect it?
The only thing is that ive had the same prblem from a stock set up and now from a setup that is FAR from stock?
|
so it happened on a stock setup with the cooler? or totally stock?

i used the ACL bearing listed in the book at work when i rebuilt my 4agte. i didnt even plastiguage them and it's been thrashed for about 14 months with no problem at all.
if i where you fat, i would drop the sump and have a look see.

an oil filter with an "anti-drain back valve" makes it one way only. be sure of your remote stuffs hook up.
else, it's an assembly/clearance problem.
