Anyone know anyone who has looked into converting a 4EFTE (Starlet) into a RWD layout. Gearbox wise I'm talking about.
I've done a very quick look many months ago but decided it was too much effort. Due to recent events it's worth looking into again.
I have had a 4A FWD bellhousing up against one and the top left bolt hole and dowel lineup fine. What I haven't had time to investigate is whether the input shaft lines up at this point. The 4A bellhousing is a little bigger but if the dowel and input shaft lined up then it's possible the rest of the holes could be welded up and redrilled off centre a little.
It's not a project that's worth getting a one off custom bellhousing made.
Any ideas. I will be making up a template off the backing plate to check further but if someone has already gone down this path input would be appreciated.
im also looking into this at the moment, ive just been searching the web, though i havent had any luck as yet, but if i do ill let you know, please do the same if you happen onto any breakthroughs.
steve.
hello guys.well i was also looking for that info but didnt find anything on it so i did it as i found fit.the gearbox i am using is some sort of a t50 transmission but it has a different bellhousing so a custom adapter plate was made.im using a toyota corona rear diff.the engine is running on a ct20 with fmic exhaust etc etc.soon some rx7 injectorsand more boost.and believe me a rwd 4efte really kicks a$# when the boost kicks .
btw this engine is in a datsun b310.i can post pics if u want to?
have fun with ur project.
The input shaft will line up, but you will have to modify the bellhousing to make all the bolts line up. The top two dowels are the same.
