Hey Karl, good luck with the conversion your car already looks the-part!!all she needs is the go!
before you chuck the motor in, GUT the shit outta the cat just below the manifold. that thing is really restrictive..

yea finney its a 165 engine. other future mods are planned for it. atm just wanna get it in and running.
well here a progress report of what happened today.
got the cooler on and made up some pipe work for it.
lifted the car 6 feet in the air to get the motor under it with the trolley
motor went straight in without too much fuss.
now the tedious task of putting all the components in and wiring it all up.
wont be able to work on it for a couple of days...doh.
thanks for the comments guys.

Go nuts brutha... I considered a conversion to mine, but my girlfriend found an early gen ST-165 GT-4. It looked a bit rough but I couldn't resist. It was in the shop for about a year, just saving enough to get the engine mods done, now makes 160 kw at all fours on 14 psi (high flow factory turbo).

well still going with the conversion, doing a McGyver on the wiring, having to extend wiring and tap into the ST162 harness to make sure all the components will work according to factory standards. mind you I dont have a book or manual to work off.
here are some pics of the mods done.
suspension upgrade (yes they are KING SPRINGS)
thicker CV shafts (notice the difference.)
the wiring

Sorry to bug ya on a different topic but where did you score the front bar and front quarter guards. I have been trying for 2 years to find a left one. I need the little bumper extention on the bottom of the guard, some mole crashed into mine and I haven't been able to replace it since .
Sorry I can't offer any advice.

Yeah, that was my only option, but it seems I keep seeing heaps of other guys that convert their cars to 165 spec, and I still haven't found one. They are ghost parts, even Toyota didn't have any when I claimed it thru insurance, everything was original parts except the bumper and guards.
Thanks anyways...good luck with it all...where are you guys based maybe we'll meet on the street for a lil 165 fun.

it sounds crap at the moment cause I havent fitted the muffler.
I had everything right which I am very estatic about, just a few thing that needed re-doing, like the intercooler water pump and the thermo fan activation. but the motor is smick after all its only done 61K , the wiring tidy up begins. but man its BOILING outside.
but your right I have a grin from ear to ear now.

put the car back together over the weekend...topped up all the fluids and bled the clutch.......started the car put it into gear ...and theres a noise coming from the clutch bearing.. its as loud as anything...and its a new bearing.. I have to take out the gearbox now.. going to be so hard as I will only be able to put it a couple of hours a day into it now.
was hoping to have it finished by last weekend...now i am unsure. I am gonna kick the guys back side that sold me the clutch kit.

you're right the actual conversion only took me a week its not that amazing really it like just replacing an engine.
however I have been collecting and sourcing all the parts etc for a couple of months now. and did a lot of research on 3SGTE conversions, and taking tips on what to watch out for. it was quite fun and adventurous.
