SPRING rate for 86 coilovers?????

As the heading states, im currently thinking about getting a set of coilover for my 86, but am un-sure of what spring rate to go for....
i read in Drift Battle that the optimun rates are:
5.2 kg/mm front
4.4 kg/mm rear
would this be the best setup or am i better of going for a better spring rate......
Cheers ADRIAN

Never beleive the crap in magazines, most of them just print words from people mouths without ever trying it. Most magazines say you must have locker / LSD for drift. This is BS!! I have seen and drifted as good as / equal with LSD equiped cars with my open diff.
For drift I have found that the rear needs to be around the same spring rate as the front to make it slippery. I use 6.5kg front and 6kg rear. Keep that ratio. At most i use 8kg/7.5kg but that can be too bouncy on a rough track.
For rear traction use 6kg / 4-4.5kg. Soft rear sticks better (to a point)
Remember, suspension settings are individual preference.

Pfft why waste your money. Just cut 4 coils off the stock springs. Fully sick moite!
Seriously. I'd go with the default 6kg fronts 4kg rears and go from there. Coilover springs arent that expensive anyway so if you find they're too stiff or too soft change them. Just find what works for you.
Also, as funny as it sounds a car with excessive oversteer sucks for drifting. The driver should be inducing the slide, not the car.

Exactly - some mag I flicked throuhg recently in the newsagents, talking about cars to import under the 15yr rule, listed the TA6x Carina as 'basically the same as an 80's corolla'. Even the smallest bit of research would have said that it's a cousin car to the xA6x celica, and shares the same floorpan...

Do you own the red panda GTV?
Get some of Steves 8kg front with his 6.5ish rear springs.
They work well in my car and I drive it 60km's to work everyday in traffic etc. I'm using his setup but with TRD blue rear shocks and RCA's etc.
Im waiting on my LSD to see how it drifts, but the tail definetely wants to come out even with the single spinner.

I have just put some 6kg 180mm fronts in and its quite firm and I am sure some people would dispise it, its really your personal taste. Some people love 8kg ones and I think 4kg would be best for many. One thing I am sure of is that King lows wouldnt suit harly anyone.

king springs are super shit. i agree with the whole 'cosmetics' comment. Also progressive springs are ghey.
Anyhoot, if your looking for a drift setup, check out the D1 ae86s. 8kg/6kg is a common setup amongst the ae86ers that I know. Personally I want to go 9kg/7kg.
Happy ae86ing

I run 390 lb/in on the front and 280 lb/in on the rear and for road use that's too hard.
I'd reckon more like 280's on the front and about 120-150 on the rear would be okay.

I recently put in 6kg (330 pound) coil-over springs in the front and I have found that their too hard for my liking. Maybe someone wants to swap my set for theirs. But it is close to what I want. If anyone wants to go to the S.E suberbs I can take them for a spin.
