i once wrote a paper at uni doing a mathematical model of a water drop usinf mega cool high speed cameras and a light tank - you can actually apply a lot of spring equations to them...
interestingly, it has application in observation of craters on moons and planets etc, which act in a very similar way (thixiotropic material?)... ever notice the small hump in the very centre of some of the craters on the moon ?

Cool! So bits of meteor go flying back in the opposite direction to the impact? That makes sense I guess. Kinda trippy to see water doing it though!
The camera is a Canon A85. Picked it up new for $390 from Teds in the city. It's only 4 megapixel, but the sheer number of funky options it has it great. It's perfect for people who like to mess around with funky picture effects because it lets you customise absolutely everything. Can't say enough good things about the camera. Battery life is fantastic too. Been using it for over 8 hours or so continuously so far. Still shows full battery charge. It's quoted at over 24 hours continuous use between charges. Pretty hardcore!

*giggles like a little girl*
Those are some seriously cool shots. I'm a big fan of the A-series Powershot. I'd definitely consider getting one of those as a backup for taking away to the snow and other places where I don't want to mess up my SLR. If I ever sell my Canon G2, I'm seriously going looking for an A80.
(Out of interest, you said you've got the A85.. What exactly are the differences between that and the A80?)

It is a touch phallic, isn't it?
As for the A80 vs A85, I gather it's pretty much an asthetic difference (swivel LCD vs built in LCD), with perhaps a few extra tweakable features on the A85, though don't quote me on that (can you do all the funky picture distortive effects, adjust the flash power, etc on the A80?).

Gotcha - so the A85 has a fixed LCD screen? (pretty sure I remember seeing the A80 had a swivel screen).
From what I looked at, pretty much most of the processing on the A80 is much the same as on my old G2, it's just a much smaller body (that's the main reason it appealed to me - I'll already know how to use the thing hehhe).
I would assume most of the modes & settings would be the same between the A80 & 85. Let me see if I can find a comparison online somewhere..

Well there you go. So it seems the main difference is bling, and some minor enhancements on the A85. Swivel LCD's are pretty cool though

How were they done? Presumably using something like 1000ms shutter and thus the absense of a lot of light. They are a bit dark for my liking, but I do a lot of night shooting so am used to bright light\dark backgrounds\highlights. Perhaps shining some bright coloured light might make for some nice effects. Nice shooting anyhow!
Does that camera allow you to select manual shutter speed, apperture etc?

Yup, sure does.
Most of these were shot at 1/1600 shutter speed. I would have liked to have gone to 1/2000 shutter speed, but I don't have bright enough lighting here to allow it. As it was with 1/1600 shutter speed, I had 4 lamps directly over the water, and the flash brightness cranked almost to full. I know they're a little dark, but unfortunately I can't go any brighter with the equipment that I have!
As for the camera, it allows complete controle over obsolutely everything. All the usual effects like black and white, sepia, invert, etc. Plus you can controle flash brightness, lense angle, shutter speeds, aperture settings, exposure settings. And I know I'm only scratching the surface here. There are a million and one other options on the camera that I haven't had time to fiddle with yet.
The settings I used for these photo's (after about 2 hours experimenting) were 1/1600 shutter speed, 6.5 exposure, A50 aperture, 60% flash brightness, and zoomed to about 1.5x. Focussing was a little tricky because I still haven't got the hang of the manual focus thing on the camera - So I had to mark a reference point on the surface of the water (usually with the tip of a pen or my finger) and focus on that by pressing the shutter button halfway down, and then while holding that reach over and try to drop water on the surface at exactly the same point, and capture it exactly timing wise
