1JZ - 2JZ Diffs...
|

Hey guys/girls
The 2JZ has a square bore/stroke, (86mm * 86MM from memory)
The 1JZ has an unsquare bore/stroke (86 * 79 from memory)
Now the block is the same as far as I can tell, and so is the head, so is the only difference in the stroke?
Or are there some other internal differences?
Thanks
Matt

All 1JZ have a bore of 86mm and a stroke of 71.5mm
The 2JZ are 86mm x 86mm
2JZ heads are different to 1JZ.
Thats all i know.

AFAIK block is same material but 2jz is about 25mm higher because of the extra stroke.
1jz head is designed by Yamaha.
2jz head is a toyota head.
Still haven't seen any flow tests done to see which is better. I am predicting a bees dick difference if any anyway.

Would I be correct then to assume the 1JZ can not be stroked out to be square?
|
You probably could, but you'd need very short conrods which is bad news if you want to rev the engine. But why would you bother? 2JZ blocks are cheap and easily attainable.
|
I would of gone for the longer stroke to lower the rev threshold (Lower revs, but creates more torque)
When creating the torque lower down (And moving more "gas" at the same RPM as before) the turbo will spool quicker, which means boost on quicker, and because boost is not needed at higher RPM, an smaller turbo can be used, that would generally run out of "puff" at those high rpms...
I had also looked around at buying 1JZ-GTE front cut, and 2JZ-GTE front cut, and found the 2JZ to be around double the price from alot of places (Even more if I wanted the Getraq 6 speed)
So I thought the 2JZ block would be worth more, and if it was only a diff crank in use, then would it be cheaper to swap cranks, but with the extra deck height, there becomes an issue...

I don't think a 1jz will be running out of puff up top with a big single turbo. They like to rev quite a bit. They won't make as much power or torque as a similar 2jz though.
so how much power do you want?
450rwhp or less get 1jz
450rwhp or more get 2jz

360 At the treads once a bit of work has been done...
And in the end... Push a MA70 JZ powered Supra into the 11s...
I know, the MA70 is heavy, and is harder to get going quick then the earlier supras, but I just love the MA70...

I think you may need a bit more than 360rwhp for 11's. maybe over 400 or so. Obviously, there is a lot of variables. The 1jz can certainly push a ma70 into the 11's though. Slicks would DEFINITELY help though

I wasn't going to attempt to push the MA70 into the 11s without Slicks and Front runners...
I also want to have proper harnessed seats (Planning on track work) and I will also strip the interior when I go for that 11 (Back seat out, door trims, etc)
The 360RWKW is only the first milestone I want... I just want the crown in the Toymods area for power...
Then I want an 11... (Mid - Low 11 preferred... But an 11 all the same)

KYOSHO: I didn't know you meant rwkw not hp Sounds like a nice project! Always good to hear about some quick cars being built
J: that is very interesting info. I would have thought you would need a bit more power for those times but obviously not. shows what a well set up auto can do.
