AE82 Twincam recommendations for shocks? Sat, 19 October 2002 12:08 Go to next message
Hey Guys,

My mate gave me a set of Whiteline Springs for my corolla, and as far as i know the car is running on the original shocks still.

I was wondering what brands/models of springs you reccommend to go with the springs and where is a good place for to get them installed. I believe the springs are about 1" lower than standdard.

I went to ozzytyres in Bexly and the guy quoted me $980 on a set of Koni's all round installed.

Just want some advice before i go out spending big bucks,
Jim

Well my front shocks were stuffed and my mates dad that works for toyota said that Pedders Comfort gas are good some a got some of them trade price (or a little cheaper than normal price) for $260 for 2....and they are hell sweet.
They also have the Sports Ryder's which are a bit stiffer.
I fitted mine myself..was pretty else.(Never none it before).

Go the Koni's I reckon, if you're willing to spend that much. As for putting them in, it's not that hard to do yourself if you're keen to have a go - I'm sure someone could show you how its done.

If you can afford it, go the Konis.
Cheap and reliable, KYB. (this is what i run)
Wouldn't touch with a barge pole, Monroe.

The ultimate? (IMHO)

But pricey...

All should be easy to install.

Craig.

Yes you will need a spring compressor to compress the springs to get them off.

When buying shocks do they come with the strut thing the springs sit on and the bracket down the bottom that the steering knuckle bolts onto? or do i keep these and take off that nut thing and put the shock thingy in, is this a hard job ie can i do it myself? *confused*

Hunty: on nearly all FWD corollas, the rear shock comes as a sealed unit IE: it has the lower spring seat and the flanges to bolt onto the hub carrier.
On the front, the shock is a replaceable insert, and so is seperate to the lower tube which has the spring seat and flanges on it.

Yes, you will have to remove that large nut to replace the insert and keep the lower tubes with the spring seat and hub flanges. NOTE that the Twin Cam and Single Cam versions are different! (at least on the AE82)

No, its not a hard job once you have spring off. Use somthing like a pipe wrench with care, and it will work. (worked for me any way)
