Car Offsets and PCDs...

Hi I was just wondering about all this...the PCD is basically like the size of the bolt or whatever it's call...? and the offset is how far the centre of the wheel is away from where it's mounted or something yeah...? Like...I don't mind too much of the definitions...but I was just wondering...I've heard the offset doesn't mind too much...like...if my car's wheels have a +38 offset it's not ALWAYS gonna be +38 right? but I was wondering about the PCD because mine's a 5 x 100...I was just wondering if there was ANY way I could get wheels that were 5 x 114 on? Because I've found some nice wheels that were off a 1999 Honda Prelude...and they're like...just nice...coz I'm not wantin to spend heaps on wheels right now...so yeah...is there any way? Or should I just not bother? THanks.

the PCD is effectively the number of bolt holes x the distance between the bolt holes.
so 5x100 means 5 bolt holes 100mm apart.
5x114.3 means 5 bolt holes 114.3mm apart.
so the short (and legal) answer is no.
I have heard of people (of questionable intelligence/ethics) redrilling rims to make them aftermarket multi-stud, but I suspect this hugely reduces the structural integrity of the rim, and will void insurance and get you a canary if you get waved into the pits

PCD = pitch circle dia which means that the 5 x 100 = 5 holes equispaced around 100mm dia circle.
Wheels can be fixed to fit other set ups - a wheel centre like Neales Wheels or Morton and May or Clarke Wheels are the places to ask.
Failing that - see Draven's response.

of course, once you start replacing centres you gotta ask yourself if you're saving any money over looking for some wheels actually designed for your car.
and thanks for putting my post in more literate terms... have just finished a split shift, so I'm not totally conscious.
