G'day all and Happy NY
I have an enquiry.
Just wondering which of the ct20b's you's would pick in your opinion. I have been offered an st205 with a steel exhaust wheel and one with a ceramic exhaust wheel. Now i've figured this much out that the steel wheel one would last longer, and the ceramic wheel one would spool faster, but are the differences very minimal or is it that noticeable or beneficial? i.e how much longer would the steel one last longer? and how much faster would the ceramic one spool up faster? Both are in good condition and going for the same price.
But ultimately, which one would you choose?

If you have a ceramic wheel, make sure it lasts and it's in good condition. I tried to get my OEM Jap version CT20b refurbished by Precision turbochargers and they couldn't refit my ceramic wheel, something about being too small to get into and replace, and that they recommended using a steel wheel anyway. On mine I'm using a 56mm trim compressor wheel and the turbine off the CT26, so it's been hi-flowed. I'm still using the CT20b casing though.
I never tried the ceramic wheel in my car (like driving it), but it definitely spooled up quicker and gave boost virtually off the mark. The High-flowed CT26 I now have has a huge amount of mid-range, but can bog down on the low end. I keep the revs up about 500 or so over idle and it's good to go off the mark. It's not that it's laggy, but not as responsive as the CT20b.
Andrew.
