R154 into JZA80 2JZ-GE? Wed, 05 January 2005 03:26 Go to next message
Hey guys,

Got a mate going NA-T on his Supra, with how crap the W58 is, and how expensive the Getrag V160/161 is, wondering how easy would it be to fit an R154 onto a 2JZ-GE? Would any changes to the tailshaft be required?

Thanks for any help.

Dan.

R154 and W58 have different output shafts on them, and from memory use different flywheels.

I don't think you will get an R154 into a JZA80 either.
The shifter will never line up, but I'll let someone who knows for sure answer that.

The W58 will hold an NA-T easily, providing he knows how to drive and doesn't do stupid shit.

He likes to drive it like he stole it, and has already broken one W58 with the NA-T. So another one would just be a short term patch up until funds for a getrag came up.

JP needs to settle down. Laughing

Isn't an R154 a similar length to the V160?

IF it is, 1jz flywheel, clutch and R154.

Think of the shifter on the V160 and 2jz W58...

Was just thinking, I haven't heard of any problems with shifters when mounting V16x getrag into JZZ Soarers, would think if an R154 wasn't going to fit in a JZA80, that a V160 wouldn't fit in a 1JZ Soarer?

GiantTomato, so you're sure it will fit alright? Just tailshaft?

a r154 compared to a jza8- non turbo w58 is about an inch longer backwards for the stick. its not really that much different.

if he's breaking W58 gearboxes in an NA jza80, he needs to learn how to shift.
anyone who's been in my car will tell you I'm not nice on my gbox at all (with heavy duty clutch), and I've yet to break one!

i agree with draven
w58's are also way nicer to shift.
I dont mind my r154.. i think it needs a better grade oil though.
R154's when 'cold' are clunky but alright when warm

A) You might wanna reread the model number.
B) If it IS from a ZZ30, you have had a rear housing swap

Besides, the V8s didn't come with a manual.

Well, I pulled it off a 1JZGTE on a pallet, that was sitting there with ECU etc., plus it sure as hell didn't have a front sump (chaser) or I would have collared that too.

Only thing I can think of is that it's from a JZA70 and someone had swapped the ECUs, and mislabelled the engine? Ahh well, saves me having the swap the rear housing for what I want anyway Very Happy
