Just out of interested i rang my local toyota dealer and wanted to get a price on a 1JZ...
next day i receive a call telling me the engine is available brand spanking new. Of course it had to come from japan but didn't come with required bits such as, ECU, Starter motor etc etc. So basically for the block with the turbos i was told it would only be a small $15,000
So if anyone is interested go down to your local toyota dealer and order a 1JZ from japan, else buy a half cut for almost 1/5 of that price with all the gear already on it!!

well given the 15 years of storage costs, the fact that the car it came in would of been $100,000, freight from japan, etc etc, $15000 is quite resonable for a NEW engine...price u a rebuild on one latey with turbos as well..???

yes it is quite decent, but they told me at the dealer that they would custom build it

I read that the proliferation of 1.5j,s in Japan is due to 2j bottom ends being available cheaper than rebuilding a 1j.if you think anyone would consider a 1j at that price could you forward me their details please.cheers.Pete.

I priced a 2J shortblock from toyota, $4k NZ by sea, or $6K NZ by air.
