22RE in 81 hilux Thu, 06 January 2005 05:12 Go to next message
after a bit of thought ive decided to drop a 22RE in to my hilux and use the siezed 18RC as an ancor Very Happy
so what parts will i require to get the 22re in there?
i assume the engiene mounts are the same because thier both R engienes and in the states they came with this engiene from 81-88 and the chasis in the hilux didnt change till 94 also i think.
my hilux has a celica 5speed in as well, will i have any troubles there hooking up a 22re to it.
the biggest reason i want the 22re, its fuel injected, younger bigger and more efficiant.
so ill need to rewire everything?
or just run the loom to the ECU (or ecm whatever it ocmes with) sit the ECU under the seat and then get a sparky to wire the gauges.
whats the best way to get all this crap, get a front cut or just buy engiene loom ECU, map censor....and what not.
anything else im missing.
how much approx will a complete 22re run for nowadays, one wreckor wanted just under 500 for a non reco 18RC i laughed.
thanks for the help this forum is so much better than the other so called truck forums i tried posting on.
thanks

Nope still the same... to do it, you'll need all the mounts from an RN85 (88-97) and it will just about bolt in, the EGR valve is a close fit to the Brake m/cylinder, but abit of bending/welding to move it will help it clear.

From memory, we had to drill one hole when we fitted mine

You got it

Abotu the same as getting a 1ggte, which are a much better option in terms or performance and the work is still all the same.

how would i go about running the gauges..well the speedo?
hmm im steering more towards the 22RE cos its more available.
will this require an engineers certificate?
how much does an angineers inspection cost?
im trying to build a reliable engiene not really a speed machine.
also fuel delivery? will i need to do anything to the fuel pump?
like get an external electrical pump?
thanks for the help
