20 valve water pump to RWD Thu, 06 January 2005 10:49 Go to next message
Guys I am going to convert my 20 valve to the RWD water pump (4AC)instead of running the pipes around the front as I don't have a lot of room.

Had a look at Supercheap for the pump number on the weekend thouht they had one in stock. Not sure if I had the right one but it only had the front section. eg the actual pump part.

Did I have the wrong one or do you not get the rear section with the thermostat housing and radiator pipe section.

Do I have to buy that from Toyota or get a wrecked one or did I look up the wrong part number.

I dont think a 4ac pump is compatable. For the rest of your conversion I can help you with where to run your pipes and such, my RWD 20V is in my shed right now.

you can use 4ac pump if you perform a couple minor mods to it

Yes I thought I read in a few places it can be used. Now is the thermostat section a different part to teh actual pump. Haven't looked at a 4ac motor for ages.

What do I actually need to buy to get a complete unit.

I have a water pump and thats by itself, then I have a remote thermostat which I think I can safely say is an AE-82 one.

I have been thinking of setting up a webpage showing how to run the water piping, what do you think?

I have seen pics of people with both pipes from the back of the engine to the front going on the exhuast side of the block, I think that would mean that they are running no thermostat which is stupid.

oh and do you want a pic of a 4ac one?

From what I have read Sam they would still be running the thermostat as it is mounted into the housing at the back.

would be interested to see how you have run yours as it sounds just a little different from the others. I personally think the remote thermostat option is a little messy (just my opinion) which is why I want to run the RWD water pump set up.

I know it can be done but haven't looked at a RWD for a while to see what the parts to the pump are.

You can email me some pics if you have them to gavnkym@optusnet.com.au

yes I agree that if it were possible to have an intergral thermostat it would be so much less messy. I wouldnt be interested to see whats needed for this setup. I might be interested in converting mine as I am remaking my RWD conversion parts and selling off the old ones as a kit. Either way though it beats be why anyone would have the lower pipe come over the exhuast side? it seems like such a bad idea.

My cars work log is here:

and I will see what pics I can take for you, it might be a few days as a minimum, all the bits arnt on the engine right now.

I can't rememberthe exact detail but have seen it in a mag and a couple of sites but they use the 4AC or 4AGE RWD set up with slight mods. Obviously the 4AC is easier to get here. YOu would have had all that on your old motor wouldn't you?????
