decoyslikecurves wrote on Thu, 24 March 2005 12:02 | Hey Craig, when you got the trd springs... you had them compressed right? Is this because they weren't low enough for your liking? How much did it cost for this and who did it?
Thanks mate
|
Yeah thats right, i chucked them in and yes they were sitting very high for my liking, so i took them to Kmac @ Rockdale (02) 95561799 and got them compressed 2 and a half inches and spring rate reset. The cost was $75.
The problem with TRD, and i knew this was going to happen, is when u buy TRD springs they make them to suit standard ride height and leave them for the driver to lower the height themselves to which ever they desire. Which I think is pretty silly actually, especially this coming from a big race parts specialist like TRD, i thought they would manufacture them in lower ride heights.

Engines FIRED UP and ready to go!!! i wish
Anyways cranked it up 2 or 3 times and bang she fired up! She sounded better than ever, like a MAXI TUNED NA 20V ready to rape a race track!!! Straight off the extractors, no airbox, garage shaking, dad, steve and i screaming our lungs out!! I fkn luvved it LOL. Then exhaust had to go on which made it sound like a rexxy with no whoosh! How can i forget that nice tone it had!! Other than that its running relatively smooth, considering the engines been out of the car for almost a year now, and the microtech looks like its held it existing tune pretty well. Still running fairly rich and its kinda struggling keeping the revs up during idle. Nothing a tune cant fix Me n Steve were mucking around with the handset a little bit setting rev limiter to 8260rpm hehe and rev cut out @ 9000rpm, advanced ignition timing suiting the engine for high octane fuel, just little shit like that.
Tasks completed from last post
Oil cooler mounted on bottom of radiator support panel and installed with speedflow fittings
Oil catch can mounted next to battery and rigged up
HVS mounted and installed
VN 1 wire O2 sensor aquired and welded into exhaust
CD player wired up
Alarm siren mounted, and wired up (alarm, central locking complete)
New clutch slave cylinder
Airbox installed
Things needed to do to get running
Waiting on braided clutch lines with special fittings so its away from the extractors. Hopefully arrive on monday, then fit the lines to slave cylinder to enable the clutch
Bleed clutch
Fit front Project Mu brake pads
Bleed brakes
Order LHS LSD handbrake cable from Tory Toyota and fit
Fit seat. Hmmm milk crate perhaps
Whats on the cards for next week:
New windscreen should be coming in to get fitted
Finish off the dash, mount handset, apexi RSM, cd player etc
Paint up front suspension and brakes
Other sparco seat should be arriving sumtime next week (Thanks Geoff) hopefully look at fitting the seats maybe
Almost time to get back to body work!

awsome work man, but a word of warning, for extended track use you may want a larger oil cooler. my worked 16v motor has a high volume sump ( 7 liters oil capacity ) and a high pressure oil pump, and im running the same oil cooler, and it still was struggling yesterday at Queensland Raceway to keep oil temp below 125 degrees........

Okay cool thanks for info, i'll have to keep that in mind. If i have any issues with it, i'll hit up Leisure Coast Welding (LCW), they can make preety good oil coolers.
It goes to show how important oil coolers really are.

hey duuuuuuuuuude.
i think somethin at photodump fucked up, what are those pics you posted on my members rides thread? i couldn't view them.
i wouldnt worry too much about your oil cooler bein too small, at least you have one! and your motor isn't too worked up either. zach's engine is fine without one.
once you work it with your cams and compression lift bla bla bla, then look at a bigger cooler.

Hey there,
Yes them previous photos have the TRD compressed springs installed. But take note that the doors and tail gate which weighs quite a bit with the glass still have to be fitted. Also the car only has like 10 litres max fuel in the tank so once thats full, doors, and tailgates fitted im presuming it should bob down a bit more...hopefully not too much
Cheers for your admiration

Ha ha maybe in a couple of weeks Steve.
Heres a list of what needs to be done before we can get into the panels.
1. Mount CD player, Apexi RSM, Microtech handset in
2. Bolt seats in. Brackets still need to be made for passenger side. Aquire seat rails.
3. Shave front brake pads and bleed brakes
4. Aquire LHS LSD handbrake cable and fit
5. Make brackets for sideskirts, rear bar and front bar
6. Fit bodykit 100%

Yeah Its still running a thermostat. One of the bad things about the 20V RWD conversion is that if a thermostat breaks its right at the back of the motor. I dont know whats involved then, i dont think i want to know either.
Yeah im hoping late this year/early next year im getting LCW to custom make a twin core radiator, which should get rid of them cross-over pipes. I can see you know alot about these conversions, as i've read up on your thread. When the time comes i'll have to get some advise of you about the pipe routing if thats ok?

MY old AE86 i purchased costed $14 000
These are the parts im currently using in this project:
Engine: 4age(silver top)20V
Engine accessories: Microtech LTX computer, 4-1 extractors, Braided radiator and water hoses, 4 Bosch ignition coils, Bosch fuel pump, EARL oil cooler and fuel filter, craig davies duel cooling fans, Custom Straight through exhaust with 3 and half inch high flow cat, Cusco oil catch can, TRD Oil cap, TRD radiator cap.
Brakes: JDM 4 wheel discs, cusco brake master cylinder stopper
Drivetrain: TRD 1.5way LSD, Techno Spirit 4.3 final gear, trd short shift

Wheels: RAYS TE-37's
Interior: Splitfire tacho, oil gauge, kenwood cd tuner sparco 50mm extension boss kit
Other: Alarm, central locking.
TOTAL: I guess u could say there is $10 000 worth of the parts above (excluding the car)
My Expenses for this project:

x1 RAYS TE37 = $550
x2 14" Toyo Tires = $200

Other expenses such as poly-urethane bushes, performance fluids, 2pac paint/primer/clear/under body detanor/heatproof/interior/thinners etc, machining, new windscreen, new dash, and replaced better condition stock parts = $2800
TOTAL COST to this day: $25 760
Thats with Dad and I doing all the work, and help from relatives and friends. If it was getting done at a workshop it would cost almost double that in labour costs (especially all the custom work my dad has done with brackets, modifying parts, welding, grinding etc)
Who knows what its going to end up costing at the end of the day when theres engineering/rego, and panel shop costs (use of the booth and tools).

If u want them wheel caps man, just go to your nearest toyota dealer, and order them in. They are still available. You will be surprised what still is available for these cars. Wheel caps are in sydney, only takes a day to come in.

Thanks steve. With the seat rails, we tried the standard rails, but it wasnt happening, the seat is to narrow, then the VK rails and they're almost the same as the sparco rails but they were too short I'll have to get the sparco ones again.

try welding metal plates on the top of the stock rails, this means u can still slide the seat around, metal plates going up if u want the seat is side mounted, or metal bars running across if the seat is bottom mounted and drill holes accordling.
