Was reading about it yesterday in the Daily Telegraph auto section sounds interesting. Take one proton Satria GTI strip it off 100+kg add another 15kw of power, spec up brakes suspension etc. Sounds like it might be a pretty good car, I know its not a Toyota, but I reckong it would go pretty well. Limited edition of 150.

Yeha by the sounds of it R3 will become like a sort of hsv of protons, so eventualy there will be one for the entire range.

Actually the Malaysian government owns a fair chunk of Proton, and yes they also own Lotus.
Being a former Proton Gti owner myself i can say that Lotus had done a brillian job on handling but as for the build quality they are a heap of shit, to say the least. I had varying problems such as paint flacking of to clutch pedel and front staibiler bar snapping. There was heaps more problems aswell. As for the R3 it would be a brilliant car to put on the track as it would stick to the road like shit does to a blanket, but for power even 15kw and 100kg shaved of would make it perhaps exciting compared to the Gti. Though i would not give the car 5 points for being able to make it to the end of the race.
Now im just waiting for them to invite me to test drive one
Cheers Adam

Proton Is 50% owned by Mitsibishi hence the fact that there cars are the old mirages (satria) and the lancer used to be the wira's. The gti and r3 Satri also run the 4g93 motor. The rest of the company is owned by the malaysian government I think. Holden owns daewoo
