Hey y'all
Has anybody put a 1uz lexus v8 into a MA70 supra? Your trials and tribulations would be apreciated.
Any thoughts on it fitting in there, its a big motor but it's also a relativly big engine bay??
cheers

Ask HKSPete how he is going. He is doing this exact same conversion as we speak.
Also, check out his site:

Looks like a tight fit?
Bonnet clearance issues??
Anyway, looks like it will haul arse when its done!

Had to get the soarer sump to fit it in (rear sump, instead of lexus front sump). Have fooled a few people into thinking I'd modify that beautiful bonnet.
tight fit width ways, definately. Hopefully will get some more work on it in next couple of weeks.

Hey hey there's the man!
Thanks for posting up Petre.
So how far along has it come. Is it running. Did you use the power steer on the v8, apparently it has an internal system. Did the original supra or V8 engine mounts fit. So you kept the original cross member? And the big question can you fit a couple of turbos in there!!
Thanks mate!

Hasn't come that far at all yet (unfortunately). and I havn't done anything for about 3 weeks.
I got another box of goodies over the weekend (about $1,200 of plugs/leads/fluids/EWP etc.)
Hope to use original cross member ('91 model, supposedly same as JZA70 Supra).
Power steering isn't internal, I had to buy that with my new sump (sump and PS cost $900).
seriously, buy a front cut!
Turbos is the next thing, its gonna be f#*king tight in there, hardest part will be how to get the dump pipes past the engine to the back of the car (will put turbos in front of engine).

So what sort of turbos you going to use, I'm guessing a good set of ct12a or b's would be cost effective and around the right size? Will setting the turbos at the front effect the efficiency of the flow in the manifold??
So how were the engine mounts?
You think the V8 power st will fit ok?
And how is the clearance of the bonnet?

Power st?
engine mounts I sourced, one 2nd hand ($100), one new($200). from a 1UZ Soarer (had close to right angle).
Bonnet clearance will be ok ... far as I can tell.
Turbos, I'm not sure yet. Depends what injectors I can put in it, which will depend how much power I'll be able to get out of it, which changes the size of the turbos. But probably ct12b's or something similar.
Because the turbos will be at front, there will be a long track to get to them, so I'm expecting a bit of lag in that area. Will run an intercooler anyway so that'll add more lag.
First, I'll get it in and going, then start worrying about turbos and new injectors.
Good luck finding some engine mounts. For some reason they break very often (ask anyone with a 1UZ to check their mounts and they'll be shocked!)

Power st = Power steering unit
I saw a half cut last year on a trailer for $3000 inc the trailer I just couldn't spend the coin to get it, I've been kicking myself for ages.
Are you going to use the stnd ecu. I'm wondering how it would run with some low boost?
Will you get dellows to do the box?
About what has it cost you so far and what do you think it will cost on basic completion?
Thank for the info and I think I'll have to give you a call soon if thats ok.
Cheers

The PS pump will be a headache, but I'm not doing that just yet (gotta get it in and doing other stuff first, then see what I can connect up.
So far I think about 3 an a half grand. I've budgetted 6 grand for the swap, and will probably go over it.
I'm going to be using Delco, as I've a mate that tunes them. Don't know if the stock computer would take boost or not.
3 grand for a half cut is about average, just make sure everything is in it!
dellows is doing the box. Connecting the 1UZ to my R154 box. they are good there (although they take longer than they said - I'm still waiting).
Call me whenever ... btw, what is your name?

My names Brayden. I've got a couple of import supras, can't get enough of them and for over a year now I knew that this was the conversion that was meant to be done with this car, it just looks right doesn't it!
I got the slim body version of the supra from Japan, if you haven't seen one it's similar to the aussie one or the 2.5 1jz model but the front and rear panels are slimmer. It looks much better, only problem is they only come out in a 1G GTE. Which in it's own right is a good strong motor but lacks the tourqe needed for 1600kg.
I'm getting rid of my older red model and I want to do up my black one. It's a 1990 low volume comlianced, targa top manual. The motor thats in there is acctually realy good, it looked like it just came off the production line when I first got it a few months ago, but I want the V8!
I think I will start getting the body ready first and in the mean time start to advertize the motor and gearbox
So thanks for the info and if you know anyone that want a good 1G GTE and manual box let me know so I can catch up to you!
Cheers
