Does it have to be a 58, or can it be any steel plated box?

You realise the only difference between the early steel sandwich plated gearboxes is the ratio counts don't you? Doesn't matter what the gearbox was from originally - they're all Toyota Oval Cased Gearboxes at the end of the day.
