I'm not sure on the exact location of the ball joints on that model but they are usually on the end of the tie rods, they turn the front wheels (usauly) there are others as well it depends witch ones exactly are gone, if u wiggle them and theres movement there fucked, if u have no idea what im talkim about can get some pics, Rack boots are on the steering rack there about 10cm long 5cm round, look neer the firewall, front struts would be the shockeys, the springs only fail if broken, if u need pics let me know

if u need to replace ur tie rod ends - not too hard
u will need a wheel align after doin them
and a tie rod remover is handy too

boot - can be a bitch (pulling out rod)

struts? hmmm could be a few things

power steering - ha everyone seems to get leaks, glad i
dont have it (but i hate bump steer dammit)
most probably a hose or clamp leaking

What are the ball joints? Rack Boot

ball joints are at the base of the strut/coil tube - commonly referred to as a macpherson strut. The other ball joints in the system are out at the ends of the steering rack and they would be referred to as 'tie-rod ends'.

ball joints:

rack boot:

Rack boots are flexible, bellows-like things go over the ends of the steering rack to prevent dirt-n-shit getting into the rack. They look similar to the boots used in some IRS suspensions and W drive shafts

these are the struts mentioned above - what part of the strut did they fail? the shock absorber insert. the psring, the spring seats, the upper bump stop, the top plate bearing

btw: when you bought the car from brisbane did it come with a safety certificate (used to be called RWC in Qld)?
