Check out the Grex rotors on Rhys Millen's drift Monaro for similar style. They claim it was done for weight reduction.

By the time the car has stopped, they'd be no pad left due to those huge slots and serious lack of contact area.

EDIT: And it won't matter what colour it is, because after a few brakes it'll be all brake dust black anyway.

not to be flamed or anything but i read somewhere that some rally cars did use odd shaped rotors (sometimes square) to disperse heat more effectively, something about increased surface area outside of the pad contact patch acting as a heat sink sort of device.
i can't qoute the exact source but it sounded plausible.
