not to be flamed or anything but i read somewhere that some rally cars did use odd shaped rotors (sometimes square) to disperse heat more effectively, something about increased surface area outside of the pad contact patch acting as a heat sink sort of device.
i can't qoute the exact source but it sounded plausible.
