help with trany selection

Got a small dilemma on my hands. I am going to use a 3rz engine in my RA24 celica, but I cant seem to decide/figure out what trany I can/should put behind it. So here are the facts.
-the 3rz came with a w59 trany.
-the trany could see 300hp and 275 lb-ft
so here is what I have found so far
-I have figured out that a supra or celica w58 is going to be a direct swap, when using the w59 bell housing
-apparently the w58 has a slight problem with 2nd gear going out under high torque
does this all sound right?
Also, I was wondering if a R15_ would be a better choice. I dont know anything about these things, so will it even have the right spline number and input shaft length?
My dilemma is will the w58 from the supra be just fine, or should I start researching the R15_ series tranies as a stronger alternative.
Thanks for the help guys, just another step in getting this thing figured out
Ryan
P.S by the way, this is in the US, but noone seems to be able to help me on the other boards and this is my last resort

I thought the W59 was the same strength as a W58? I thought the W59 was outa a light truck so it should be strong.
The R15_ whatever and whatever your talking about, do you mean the R154?
This is a really strong box and was behind such engines as the 7MGTE in the supras. This would be the strongest option, without forking out big cash for the 6sp getrag in the later model supras, but seing as a W Series box will bolt up then just use the W59 that you already have?
I dunno i may be wrong.
Can someone clarify?

Yeah what you have said is as far as i understand to be correct.
I dunno about the r151, sorry.
But if its strength above and beyond the 300hp you talk about then the R154 is the go but this will mean farting around with a custom bellhousing and the like.
mmmmmmmmm?

R151 has 4wd ratios, 4.3 first gear youll probably wanna steer clear of that.
AFAIK the W59 has 4wd ratios too, 3.8 first gear which will be to short too.
Just go the W58 it will be fine

Yes, W58 is the go. It will handle a lot more than 300hp - mine survived over a year behind a boosted 2JZ-GTE, and I doubt your 3RZ will develop as much torque. The W59 is just as strong, in fact it's pretty much the same box, but the ratios are suitable for hauling loads not going fast.

Give the W box a go. After you've killed three of them (should you achieve this!), fork out serios $ for custom innards for the W. At least it'll be a nicer shifting box than the R154

what do you mean by micer shifting? i thought the r154 was the best, second only to the 6 speed.
