hey
i managed to pick myself up a complete 4k-E setup last night for a very low price, and plan to put it onto a 5K engine, apart from a turbo option, what are some upgrades i can do using the efi setup and get some decent HP, im aware of using carbs, will the same aspects of porting apply or will i have to do things different ?
cheers

BUMP
as i am doing the exact same thing at the moment (4k-e efi setup on a 5k) id also like to know what the best mods would be after finishing the install??? i dont think a turbo manifold and turbo would fit in the limited space of a ke15 sprinters engine bay..... if anyones done it before let me know...
cheers

Well, a first step is to get the ports of the EFI manifold setup matched to the ports on ure 5k head (im assuming?) - keeps evertyhing flowing nicely !

hmmmm clever me put the manifold on without checking the intake ports were the same diameter as the intake rails.... if they werent id have to get new rails made up and port the plenum chamber wouldnt i?? it would rev heaps better after that i guess. probably a bit too much work for now i reckon, im after some cheap bolt on mods that are effective.....

okay.
the 4KE setup has approx 30mm diameter runners, which is abotu the same as a bigport head.
can one of you guys measure the diameter of the 5K intake ports and exhaust ports (square) for me?
basiclly, when using a 4KE setup, you will want to port the same as for anything else... get the intake to 30-31mm diameter, and open up the exhaust ports a bit (i did mine 2mm on the walls and roof, but left the floor alone except for the tight radius)
i hope you both have the 4KE rocker cover? if not, you need it as the plenum sits on the normal filler.
also, i now have a Megasquirt map for my 4K, and you could probably chuck it on a 5K with the appropriate req-fuel value.
4KE has 145cc injectors stock, which is good for a 4K up to about 6000-6500rpm. after that you need bigger ones..
i wopuld suggest 4AG 180-210cc/min injectors. other denso style injectors drop in... even the 7MG 295cc/min injectors i have do, and they would be perfect for a small turbo.
there is not much space, but a well thought out manifold could support a turbo. i would recommend sitting the engine upright for a turbo tho, gives you a lot more space to work with.
fwiw, my 4KE setup sits in a KE15 bay nicle, and clears the bonnet.. i took a pic on the weekend before fitting my 7KE manifold.

hey
im using a 3K head, which il be porting out..
how much difference is the rocker cover ?
would it be possible to modify my current one, as i didnt get a 4K-E rocker cover..
and they are hard to find over here.
iv also got some 4AGE injectors, but they dont seem to sit nice in the fuel rail, do i have to change something over ?..they keep falling out.
Stewart, would you mind sending me some pics of your setup or linking me to some ?

ooh.. big difference, the filler is at the rear of the head and sticks up a lot more...
you really need the 4KE rocker cover to make it work.. otherwise you'll have to get your stock one modified... or take off the manifold every time you want to add more oil...
i'll find some pics...
the 4AG injectors i have work fine.. they are held in by the fuel rail and stick in the fuel rail by the o-rings

the 7KE manifold doesn't even come close to the rocker cover, and thus the 7KE rocker cover is a normal one.
you need a 4KE one, or a modded stock one (to have filler at the back)
maybe thats why the setup was cheap? i definitely got a rocker cover with mine.. and no i won't seperate

i have located one
just waiting to hear back from the guy on how much hed like for it, i made him an offer of $40, but im expecting to get it for around $60ish i spose.
i noticed on my exhaust manifold i also have some sort of sensor, if i fit extractors instead of the factory manifold, will i need to change this sensor over, or will i be fine without ?.
sorry about the questions, im trying to learn how this works since i dont have an engine manual for it.
cheers David
