Starting a long sitting engine

Hey people...
I might be able to get my hands on a car that has been sitting in a well protected area for around 2-3 years...
In that time the engine has not been started...
Now I know I will need a new battery, new fuel (After draining what ever is in tank)
But I want to know, how can I get everything "safe"? Should I put petrol into the cylinders and wind the motor over by hand?
I've heard of valve stem seals getting brittle, should oil or something be put on them befor starting to try and soften them?
Would new plugs and leads be advisable?

Some people suggest squirting a little bit of oil in the cylinders. Other people just suggest cranking it over for a little bit without the spark plugs.
The valve stem seals have probably hardened, but they should soften up a little over time through heat cycling.

The best thing to do is drain the oil and fit a oil filter as well.Put a cap full at the most of oil down the cylinders and wind the motor over by hand a few times to oil up the bores.
Remove the rocker cover and fill with new oil while covering the cam, rockers and chain etc in oil then refitt rocker cover.
As you said new plugs and points if needed.
If it's got a elec pump then pump up the fuel first or if not the use a bottle with fresh fuel so it doesn't have to drag it from the tank.
Then hopefully when all is done it should go first time.Good luck.
What sort of car and engine btw?

So there isn't much I can do for the valve stem seals then?
What about other things to check first?

Not that I know of, I'm just regurgitating what people have told me, my engine hasn't been started in years.

| Thanks for all that...
The car is a *A70 Supra...
Unsure of which engine, hence the *...
I want the MA70...
I was told by a friend that there is a *A70 Supra near his mates place in a full securo car park, and they use the car park, and they know the car hasn't been moved in at least 2 years... They are going to leave a note on the car to see if the owner wants to sell...
I'm hoping its Auto (Even though I prefer manuals, but it's a work ethics thing)
