What, if there are any, are decent brake upgrades for a Ke70 that will bolt up or require only minimal mods?

mate,
from what i understand there isn't much that will bolt straight up... i'm currently doing the brakes on my ae71 and nothing will bolt up... so i'm having a bracket made to fit ae101 2 spots... i'll keep you posted on the cost.
there are plenty of other options depending on the wheel size you want to go to... i wanted to stay stocko for the while!!

Well for easy bolt ons and keeping 13s, I guess that about leaves the AE86 vented's - they do work surprisingly well, but I think you'd probably want to aim a tad higher...

I'm using UZS130 crown discs with mazda 4 spots on mine, fairly cost effective because I did the work myself. Other than that you could always swap in xA6x struts, which have other issues...

alright mrshin cough up the details.
with the endless discussion on this topic I cant remember you ever mentioning your setup.
crown discs and mazda calipers - is this on your ke70 or sprinter?
are you using std struts?
do they have a removable caliper mounting bracket or is it cast into the strut?
details!!!
please.

OK then...
It's in the AE86, as I sold the 71 when I (by chance) bought the 86 and did the 86 up instead
I fitted xA6x struts just after I got it, and used those brakes with greenstuff pads for a while - not too bad actually, easy kept pace with that long suffering 4ac
We had a UZS130 crown ½ cut in the backyard for a project which we're just getting onto now, and I pinched the discs off of that, machined a few MM off the back of the celica hub, filled/drilled holes in the discs (4 bolts not 5, but the PCD is the same).
The calipers are the mazda RX7 4 potters, which I discovered after I got them just happened to have a very handy offset for the job as well as spacing of the mounting holes. I then used a piece of 5/8 plate, drilled and tapped so that the actual weight of the braking is done against the original mounts on the struts not the bolts.
I do need to get round to getting the master cylinder bored out sometime now though. While its not quite dead cat feel, its a bit softer than I'd like it (although not half as soft as some newer cars I've driven!)
If someone round melbourne wants to volunteer a digital camera, feel free to come and take some happy snaps, or if anyone wants to come and take a look, feel free.
If you can do it yourself, it's not particularly hard to do.

Just to bring this topic back from the dead", can someone give me some advice on what, if any, better brakes will bolt up to my KE70? Bearing in mind that I've gone up to 14" alloys (from a Corona, so they llook the same as the original 13s).
So, if there is anything reasonable which will fit under the 14s (and be relatively simple to do - ie. no machining if possible).
I'm looking at "relegating" the KE70 to track-work only next year, so I want to start getting it to a stage where my life won't be in peril each time I drive it

well, i think you'll find that the KE70 brakes are about the biggest that will fit in 13" wheels (ie the 218mm disc) EXCEPT for the KE/AE70 wagon which had something like 230mm discs? check DBA cat for them.
to get discs that 'just' fit under 14's, i think you'll prolly have to do some machining, but it's not that big an issue really.
if you want to do track work, might be an idea to go one size larger in rims, and stuff the biggest discs you can under 15". increasing disc diamter alone gives you a large increase in braking (the proportion % increase in diameter even..) and it's a win-win....
you'll probably be looking for discs that get clamped between the rim and the hub, rather than bolting up as per original, and caliper brackets will need to be made. vovlo 4-spots are a good caliper and oft underused in favour of shiny ones like 300Z and RX7...

MX-62 brakes work fine bollt the whole strut in change spring and tops. just need adjustable strut tops to correct camber.
