How to remove MA61 front apron/skirt/bumper ?? Sat, 15 January 2005 06:21 Go to next message
Just wondering if anyone had pics, links or a description of how to take the front apron of my ma61? i had a quick look, but just wondering for tips of those who have done it...

i dont need to remove the actual metal bumber, just the covering skin, air dam, apron etc... though if the bumper must come off also, so be it Confused

are the indicators and fog lights built into it also, or can the apron be removed with them still in place?

cheers
ed

Laughing i can do this with my eyes closed.
1) remove the front grill, screw in the center and four clips at ends(poke a screwdriver in and twist)
2) remove indicators, two screws on outside and lever out
3)remove driving lights, two/three bolts on left and right sides
4)unbolt and remove the long plates that hold down the bar around the bottom of the lights
5)remove the long plates in the intake holes bits on the lower half, just unbolt them
6) undo the top half, you need to get a deep socket and stick it up under the top half of the black section(there are holes where the screws are, just have a look and you'll see)
7) remove front wheels, and inner splash guards
8)undo the 4 nuts on each side the bolt the vertical edge of the bar onto the car, you will need to crawl inside the wheel hub and use an extension piece on the wrench. pop those plates out adn the front bar will just slide off.

haha its on the car. its pretty much just the original, a little bit further out, with bigger openings, and a split front lip.

ah that's right
and someone rather stupidly broke the mould :\

I want something with a bit bigger scoop in it, ever so slightly lower, to allow more flow to rad/intercooler/engine bay

I've done this job more times than I care to recall, and I fscking HATE it. I'm all for over-engineering, but is it really necessary to use 3.78 million bolts to hold a nosecone/bumper in place??

Yep is a pain in the arse. What STR8 2.8 is pretty much right, just remember where you took everything out from and you'll be right.

Heh, time wise how long does it take to get off? I have to take mine off on Wednesday to take to the panel beaters, and was wondering if I should do it on Tuesday, or do it Wednesday morning?

It does sound like a complete pain in the ass though.

Mine took a few hours because a few of the bigger bolts were rusted in.
Took a LOT of effort to get a couple of them out.

Fill the front end with flyspray too, its a nice breeding ground for spiders.

LOL i'll definitely keep that in mind. I keep having cobwebs forming around my passenger side mirror and sometimes inside my car. There must be a family of spiders living in my car somewhere... Shocked

yeah, it must be a supra thing Rolling Eyes
my spare, and my dads all gather spiders around the passenger mirror.
redbacks around the rear bumper and petrol tank are a good one too.

Carry a tin of fly spray and a deoderiser in the car, they can be your best friend when you wanted unwanted pests living in the car.

Well I can't just go spraying the passenger side everytime I go into the car. My missus might seem like a pest sometimes, but I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate being sprayed by flyspray. Razz

Just got my front bar off. 24 nuts and bolts in total (not counting the ones holding the indicators and such). It was a total pain in the ass.

Good news: There wasn't any spider colonies in there

Bad news: Seems like the panel beaters who repaired my car when I had a minor bingle took shortcuts. Part of the left front chassis bits are just beaten back into shape. Also rusting a little *sigh*
