ae86 needs a new gearbox?

I've recently acquired my ae86 (with a 4age preinstalled in it) but the gearbox in it is pretty much fried. 2nd and 3rd gear are pretty much ratshit. I'd like to think it's just my driving, and the g'box is fine (my driving is cheaper to fix) but after a few people who i KNOW are good drivers/don't usually grind gears etc, have done the same, i've been told it needs fixing.
It's fine for just cruising around, but it's a pain for if i want to really 'nail the bitch'.
so what are my options? as i see it, in ascending order of expense, it runs:
a)get another t50 from the wreckers, and hope it's better than the one i've got.
b)get something else (w series gbox) and hope it's better than the one i've got and that i can make it fit.
c)get my current t50 reconditioned. (i'm told this is prohibitively expensive)
how much do you guys think i can expect to pay for each of these, and which would you consider to be the best option?
cheers lads.

If you plan to keep your 4AG as is, t50 is probably a better thing because it fits, works well and saves weight. If you've got plans for turbo etc. then might be time to upgrade.
As for rebuild/replace, I'd probably be tempted to go a rebuild, especially if you can do some of the work yourself. That way you know the box will be happy for a while, unlike a 350,000km old wreckers box.

i do quite like the t50 box, so i'd like to stick with if possible.
how much can i expect to pay get it fixed up?
would i need to get new gears made up?
how much of the work could i do myself? just assembling/disassembling it?
I'm in no hurry to make any massive power upgrades. biggest upgrade i'm looking at for the moment is some 'angry' cams, so a w58 would probably be overkill.

nah, the clutch got adjusted when i took it in for a service. was a bit better, but it's pretty clear that the last owner thrashed the guts out of it. She's going in for a dyno-tune tomorrow, and will probably get new injectors etc while she's in there.

ill have one for sale in a couple of weeks. depends on when my mechanic pulls all the stuff out of the ke30.
if you buy one from a wreckers you should get a 3 month warranty with it anyway
