GZE Troubles Mon, 17 January 2005 04:12 Go to next message
Hey

Ive got a stock jap GZE MR2 and ive been having troubles with it since i washed the engine bay yesterday

Ive blown any water that was in the spark plug channel thing out and put some WD40 in the dizzy cap

But it think its actually cutting fuel not spark ( i hooked up a timing light and it was still flashing when the engine cuts - NFI how accurate an indicator this is though Wink )

When its low load/partial throttle around 2000rpm the engine will fire on one full rotation then stop then fire on another rotation or something to that effect, if the throttle itll turned to WOT it will rev out (all beit with reduced power)

I can drive it around with some fancy clutch work and only using WOT (when i started it this morning it was fine i took it for a lap of the block and barely made it back)

Any ideas?

More information

the ~2000rpm part throttle is intermitent (ive left the car alone for a while and its gone - but if i go for a drive itll come back)

But when its not doing it, there is a hesitation b/w the throttle opening up and the engine moving, if i open the throttle up past half the hesitation leads to a massive thump when it starts to go

I had a similar problem with one of my cars.

Firstly, did you wash it when the engine was hot?

If so you could have cracked the dizzy cap and it is earthing out. This is the problem i had with mine. If so, just put a new one on and off you go.....

If its something else then i dont know Rolling Eyes

the dizzy terminals lookd coroded so it needs replacing but i didnt bother as i cant afford it (it was still worken fine) so i might have to look into it

I read the codes off and im getting code 11 - Momentary interruption in power supply to ECU, im not sure what that is (could it have any relation to the imobiliser as i cant see that causing these troubles)

pehaps you got water somewhere more important like the fusebox or alternator?
you need a stable power supply to the ECU.
also ,check other electrical conenctors on the egione (TPS, injectors etc) to make sure you haven't got water and/or corrosion happening elsewhere.

definatly water somewhere, the problem is slowly going away

now it cuts out at low rpm randomly when i take off, otherwise drivable and no loss of power. I am pretty sure the power is being cut off completely to the ECU (as that error code says, i cleared the codes and its still there)

Im gonna rig up the multimeter in the cabin to see if its loosing power to the ecu when it cuts out
