hey guys,
my mate has an '84 toyota corona and it has idling problems.
one day it started idling really high, too high, probly like 2,000 rpm.
its a carby engine and it is constantly idling this high.
does anyone know why this is happening?
any ideas?

Could be a linkage as mentioned...
Or the idle needle has moved either through vibration, or someone f'ucking with it...

It could be a vacumn leak somewhere, from one of the lines or the intake manifold gasket. Is it an intermittent rise in tickover or is it steady? If its steady it could be as simple as adjusting the tickover screw. Some peope like to raise the tickover or tune up the radio to cover an idleing problem. Last Summer, my girlfriends dad made it home in record time when a washer jammed the carby in his Camira. He was a bit white in the face when he came in though.

ok it has been sorted out now.
turned out that the accelerator cable was sticking, holding it open slightly, giving it higher revs.
cheers anyway guys
