adding squish area Mon, 17 January 2005 11:36 Go to next message
has anyone here added squish area tyo a cylinder head that was originally a HEMI head.

i am asking because the 18RG can only really handle 10-10.5:1 comp on our fuel, i wanna run about 10-11:1 but reliably, this is just an idea.

i have the means and opportunity to do it a the moment, i will be putting my worked head onto a new bottom end i am building at the moment.
and while the head is off i'd like to try a minor squish area experiment, something mild like a std 16V 4AGE head, or maybe a G4CN hyundai head.

i know bill sherwoods site has some info on it, i have read this and would like to pursue it

i'm currently having no problems at all, i only have about 9:1 compression, but if u wanna run 11:1 or so u need avgas/methanol, i dont wanna run that.

i've got spot on 10:1 comp in the hybrid, and on 98 octane, no pinging problems, but it wil always run on when you turn it off so i wouldnt wanna go any higher, unless you always want to add octane booster?

You should try having a chat to Jason - Yellorolla, as he was working on a 3t-gte head that had some serious changes to the squish area.

Cheers

also remember that it's the 'dynamic compression' not the 'static compression' that is important.
i run 10.2:1 in my 4K motor with lots of advance (20deg static timing), and have never had it ping.. i did smooth and reshape the chamber (unshroud valves etc) and run on 98, but due to my cams, i have a lower dynamic compression (65 deg overlap)

what better excuse.. "honey the cars pinging again, i think i need to fit a bigger cam Very Happy "

Squish is good.
Helps promote the right sort of turbulence.
