Keep the stocky manifold, and get a 2¼" straight through system made up. Shouldn't cost a huge amount, either. What side of town you live on?

i live in doncaster area. but am willing to travel if its worth it.
i assume u mean a 2" exhaust? i was thinking 2.25 with pressbends, dont wana fork out big $$$$ for mandrel bends!
i really hate loud exhausts sytems tho, but i do want a cannon look. maybe i will get 2" straight thru.

4age exhaust manifolds are good to about 200HP to what i know. Personally i would go 2.25" for the rest, through some good quality sports mufflers.. loudness depending on what you want.
Good luck

I meant 2.25, my numbers didn't turn out properly... That said, for a stocky 4AG a 2" will do fine anyway.

you talk about not wanting loud exhausts and yet you want a fart cannon?
if you want quiet you will need resonators (note plural) and a decent muffler
i have walker headers into 2.25 with a resonator and a lukey straight through muffler and its sweet at idle but on the highway its bareable (500 highways kms a week - 3500rpm@100km is a slut you know it)
the other option is a centre muffler then your fart cannon on a fu11y s1k angle (and a res) best thing is to talk to the exhaust dood and tell them what you want, make it clear and if your not happy with the sound make sure they know you will be back there to get it sounding like you specified free of charge

Dude i duno if these guys are good, but the owner came into my work once and i helped him out with some shit, thus we started talking and he owned his own exhaust shop.
he quoted me a 2" exhaust straight through with muffler and tip, no press bend or resonators as i didnt have enough time to mention this. $200 inc installation
9722 9766 - ask for Ross
He might do that deal to you, but thats what he said to me.
Btw, just incase, dont bother mentioning my name as he wouldnt know it, he was a nice guy jus be nice to him.
If you try them out could ya let us know how it went and what their prices were. I'm looking at doin mine in the near future aswell.

Or you could buy me a welder, and a bit of steel and i can make you one to whatever spec you want.
Caution: I have no experience with a welder, nor steel, nor making things in general.
Good luck

fuckin oath
i got a ae82 smallport aswell
if you want to get as much performance out of it as possible and be sensible with money and keep it reasonably quiet heres the go
suddenly i have deja vu, i think this has been covered at least 50 times before but anyway
standard exhaust manifold
extend secondaries on standard manifold by 500mm
hi flow cat
2" zaust
large/long resonator
box muffler, NOT straight thru cannon style
if you go 2.25 it may drone slightly more from what i have heard.
my 2c
to the dude with the car doin 2800rpm at 100kmph, you got a 6 speed? i dont know any rollas that do that, i had a pdf somewhere that had all the ratios from c50-c56 and the 5th gears were all the same ratio.
cheers

This thread is interesting, because i'm looking to get the exact same work done (exhaust that is) to get the most of the 4AGE smallport. I know of a place in ringwood that does exhausts that comes highly recommended, but, like carsanactra, i don't really know what to get
Oh yeah, and i hate cannons too.... so no cannons etc. for me.

I made my own, see sig for link, page 2 I think. But after all that effort I am remaking it. I plan to use a 2.25 with a cat and a offset walker muffler, will this be too loud for a 20 valve?

Performance exhaust in Ringwood did a 2 1/4 mandrel in mild steel, cat con and lukey straight thru. I had a standard cast manifold and they made up some long stainless secondaries. That was $550.00 ...... 8 years ago. Mind you has lasted all that time no dramas. Was very happy then and now.
Is quite loud, not convinced you need to go more than 2 inch, but doubtless there are lots of threads on that.
Am about to get a pipe made up to take the cat con off.

after hearing that I might go back to plan A and make it so theres flanges there so I can unbolt the cat to replace it with a good resonator, maybe even another muffler, if I can one under there that is.

FYI, place in boxhill is called daalder exhaust. not sure of spelling, might be dalder (one A). look up yellow pages for it.
btw, if anybody interested in an APEXI DUNK muffler lemme know.good condition, not loud, nice tone etc etc....
only problem is height clearance.
