external wastegate screamer pipe diameter Tue, 18 January 2005 09:31 Go to next message
I have a 650hp turbo kit that uses a 50mm external wastegate. There isn't very much room to fit the screamer pipe off the wastegate. So I wondering what the affects of running a smaller than 50mm pipe off the wastegate would be?

I know that there is quite a difference in low boost handling between say a 35mm and 45mm wastegate so I am not sure if going from a 50mm wastegate to maybe a 25mm pipe would be a good idea. If anyone knows anything about this, that would be very helpful.

thanks
Chris

im going to assume this car wont be street registered...

i higly recommend you uset he 50mm/2 inch piping all the way, if you go down in size to one inch it will cause a restriction, possibly not a great feal but i wouldnt take the risk. in my mind, if you can fit a one inch pip, you can fit a two inch pipe.

might require some redesign of the turbo manifold, but keep it 2 inch.

the car is registered but it will be mainly used for drag racing. The screamer pipe won't actually open for a long time with this turbo as well as the hiperboost wastegate control.

I thought this would be the answer but was just after some opinions to back that up Smile I can fit the 2" pipe but it has to avoid the steering rack which I though would be easier using a smaller diameter pipe. It goes to the mechanics in the next couple of weeks so I suppose he can work that one out.

Already had to get manifold shortened just to fit the wastegate in there! Not much more I can do.
