	| 1JZ-GTE Belt tensioner Bearing replacement | Tue, 18 January 2005 10:13 | | |
	| The bearing in the tensioner (acc ribbed belt) is stuffed. I can get the bearing to replace from the local bearing shop, but is there any way of removing the bearing from the plastic pulley?

Toyota don't list the pulley as a separate part and want $322 for the tensioner assembly.

 Any sugguestions?

	| You can't R&R the bearing in the plastic pulleys without stuffing the plastic hub. Some 1Js came with steel pulleys which can be pressed out/in but you lucked out.
Ring Nial at Bond Autotech in Botany - he has sourced alternative replacement pulleys for a fraction of the price of new assemblies from Toyota.

	| Failing that, just get one made in metal. Bearing itself is $5. | |

	| if you are talking about the tensioner that is like a swinging arm with a pulley on the end, I have a spare for sale if you want that? I have never actually used it as I only use alternator and water pump so I don't require it. PM me if interested.

 Similar, but different
They are a smaller diameter wheel, but the bearing shaft could be the same size.
FWIW, I'd be using the metal substitute if it was my 1JZ.

	| Guys, I think I may have a suitable replacement, mate works at Repco, took the plastic pulley, measured it the searched through the replacement idler pulley catalogue.
 Toyota plastic pulley & bearing
 OD 96mm
 ID 17mm (bearing)
 width 26mm

Ford Windsor 5lt Part No EP060
 OD 100mm
 ID 17mm
 width 30mm

Took it home for a trail fit. Fits offset is enough fo the pulley to clear the arm that it sits on, and have 1-2mm between belt an engine side of pulley.
Its also metal so if the bearing craps itself its only a $7.50 for relacement bearing.
Off course I haven't been able to run the engine and I don't have all the accessories bolted on so I have completely comfirmed all clearance issue. will update in a few weeks.
