Hey all
i got a portable DVD player as a present, i was wondering has anyone wired one of these up to their head unit before?
so if i wanted to play the clip to a song, it would come up on the screen but the music would come up through my system?
But i still want to use the CD player on my headunit.
Can this be done? and can i interchange playin cd's from the dvd player to the head unit?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers

You would be better off calling a Car Stereo shop mate.
They will give you the answer straight up.
Then wire it yourself because its not worth Paying someone for stereo work, most of it is actually pretty easy (So long as you get the colour codes for the wires in your car and are clear what does what )

I've thought about this before too.
It seems the easiest method is to sell off what you have and buy a proper car DVD player.
Which sucks.
I think adapting a FM transmitter from a Discman car kit, would be a good option too. Just play your DVD, tune-in the headunits' radio, and you're sweet!
What do you think?

Yep, unless your head unit has an auxillary input, then you're going to have to go the FM route.

Radio has shitter quality than your CD's? You must have a dodgy headunit then.
My radio has the same quality of the CD's and vice-a-versa. The signal goes through the same EQ's/ speakers/ amps etc... i can't figure out why yours is bad?
Do you have a seperate radio from your CD player? Or is it all-in-one? If it's all-in-one there shouldn't be any problem with sound quality...

sorry i didnt think that through properly.
ok it would probably sound the same through radio, but im not a big fan of my radio. its all one setup in my headunit.
I was thinking more wiring, is it possible to wire up the dvd player to headunit via some 'special' connections that i wouldnt know the name of hence this thread
Cheers

Yeah OK, no probs huh?
The only way sound is going in, is via the CD hole or the FM antenna. UNLESS there is another RCA input somewhere.
I reckon the FMdiscman car kit is 'tha go'. Some times Strathfield Car Radio have 'crazy' sales. That's the time to pick one up for cheap.
I might even buy a portable DVD player and do it this way too.
