Power Steering Playing Games! Wed, 19 January 2005 13:05 Go to next message
Hey guys,

a funny hing happened today, I was doing a U Turn, and turning the steering wheel, while stopped, felt like it had no wheels, really fast and slippery like, I freaked out, but once I started driving, it was ok again, then, when i stopped, I tried it again, and it was so stiff, like the car was off, the power steering fluid look like it was bubbling, is that normal?

Has anyone experienced this?

did u get custom power steer lines made with the conversion?

if so the people who made the lines should have put a restrictor in the lines on the high pressure side after the the pump. (99% sure)

if no restrictor is in there it can cause all sorts of problems.

one of the guys at pirtek campbelltown was pretty cluey with this when my mate got some lines custom made for his 1JZ MA61.

I have the same problem, at low RPM the steering gets REALLY stiff. Which is great for getting into tight parking, I wouldn't mind knowing how to fix it, although I wouldn't be getting a workout every time I park my car Wink

edit: god damn it, this is peeack not BLACK_JZA, forgot to log out :\

so not having the restrictor in there would cause it to boil?

how close are these lines to other hot things?

I am glad I don't have PS Razz

Yeah, with more testing last night, at idle, its really stiff, if the car is not moving, and I rev, the steering goes back to normal, is this the restrictor issue?

How many revs do you have to dial up before it kicks in? Or is it only when the car is rolling? ie. a certain speed is the magic number when it starts working
I always thought some ecu's were designed to compensate for power steering at idle to up the revs to handle the added load. Also that some car's power steering was made lighter when the revs are at idle, to help with parking (I'm sure I've felt this on some cars and heard a change in engine note). Though I'm no expert on this could there be some sort of sensor missing?

Unless of course the restrictor Rob mentioned serves this purpose?
