5ME to 5MGE Conversion - What I need? Thu, 20 January 2005 06:28 Go to next message
I Have a 84 MA61 with a stuffed 5ME and I have located a 5MGE with wiring loom and ECU from a MX73 Cressida.

Does anyone know if the 5MGE will bolt in without the loom and ECU to the 5ME loom and ECU.

If not is the wiring loom for the 5ME the same as the 5MGE and all I need to change is the ECU?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Step 1. Search and ye shall find. This topic has been discussed over and over again.
Step 2. Read and learn from the collective wisdom of ToyMods.
Step 3. There is no step 3.
Step 4. Come back and ask questions if you're still stuck.

Dammit, you beat me to it Norbie.

I was gonna be almost as witty about it too.

I was gonna say...

The 5m-e and 5m-ge looms are quite different...

I would recommend running the 5mge with its ecu and loom. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE AFM!!! the 5m-e one is not compatible!

People have run the 5mge with the 5me gear, and it works, but I prefer the closed loop for economy.

Cheers,
James

My advice would be to not go spending too much on it though - the 5MG isn't exactly an object of tremendous excitement...

Yeah, the 5M-GE is a better thing but it's still a bit bland.

7M-GE is a better bet these days. More work, but well worth it.
