engine replacement - paperwork? modplate? Fri, 21 January 2005 03:27 Go to next message
*edit*

if you already have a modplate because of an engine conversion can you can replace the engine with the same model of engine and it doesnt need any paperwork changes except for engine number, is this correct?

i also get the feeling the 3t crank is used in the later
2t block because if you use a 3t block which is the same
except for the engine number, you would have to get it
mod plated because it would be an engine conversion.

so an existing engine conversion - corolla ke30 2tg, can
have the engine replaced with another 2tg and
no modplate changes

rule of thumb (for Qld conversions): if the transplanted engine (and it's induction/fueling configuration) was also available as a factory option for your make/model of vehicle then no blue (mod) plate required.

note of caution: an overly zealous safety certificate inspector might baulk at having different engine model to the build plate on the car - highly unlikely tho. In this case, find another inspection station as you're obviously dealing with a tossa.

noted for future reference.

wondering if technically that means that an 3sge/gte swap into an AW11 Mr2 should be available without plating (yes its really loose use of th rule wording there... "sure! its a factory option on an MR2!" Very Happy)

eventually down the track i might look at a powerplant upgrade and if it really was so simple that would make it easier. if by 'model' you meant aw11/sw20 obviously im talking out my backside then hehe

BTW with regard to the 4aGZes - since they were a stock fit to the AW11 albeit in japan does that mean they have to be plated or not when installed in an Aus delivered aw11?? ive always wondered about that, if i ever found a Gze and dropped it in....
(qld also so the qld rules are what im interested in)
Cheers

i highly friggin doubt it!! that would be an engine
conversion wouldnt it? and therefore needs a mod plate...?
in qld thats the legislation in the engineers manual.

Laughing

i have the up to date qld engineers manual for light
motor vehicles, i think its sweet to replace an engine
if it already has been modplated for that type of engine.
i was seeing about the paperwork - i think qld transport
has to be be told the new engine number and its all done.

<big snip> i think qld transporthas to be be told the new engine number and its all done.

actually, if you don't tell QT that the engine number has changed your car is not legally registered as the rego details will no longer match the physical details of the car.

There shouldn't be any need for thinking here, if you change the engine, you have to tell QT - whether by a simple safety insepction (to cover the engine # change) or engineering the change and getting a mod plate from the engineer attached (and lodging relevant mod-plate paperwork with QT).

(this aplies to Qld, other states unknown)
