SNAP, was that the control arm

before the days of my ta22 celicas, i had a corolla SX SECA.
mods;
resprayed red
ROH astron 16" rims
lowered lovells
monroe GT GAS shocks
hurricane headers
sports exhaust
unifilter pod
illegal tints
about 10pm i was going out for drinks (had not been drinking at this point). i was running late so i was giving it a bit of stick, went arount a corner at about 60k'z, front right control arm snaped, mounted the gutter, smashing the front lights, grill, bumper bar, front rims, bending my brand new shocks, tore the drive shaft from the gear box and fracturing an engine mount, put me straight in a barrier fence, straight through the fence and stoped about 15 metres off the road on a local oval. GOODBYE MY FIRST CAR, i could not afford the damage bill and did not want to make a claim as i did not want rocketed premiums at the age of 18.
In the end i ended up with a car with the drive shafts torn from the gear box smashed rims smashed front bar flat tyres bent shocks and towing fee+ a neg driving charge.
NOT HAPPY JAN!!!

Personally i would have claimed and apealed the neglegent (sp?) charge on grounds of mechanical failure but thats just me and i've already had a crash so my premiums are up about as high as they can go

if you disputed it and took it to court with a letter from an mechanical the the control arm was the cause of the accidient the charge would have been dropped

That doesn't sound very fair.
I had an accident in my Gemini, I was turning, It was a blind corner and a girl in a VS was doing 90 in a 60 zone, came over the top of the hill and hit me and I'm at fault.

I had a guy reverse into me at a servo in my torana, a sigma coming in the opposite direction turn right infront of me in the torana (write off) and I had a guy going in the same direction do a U-Turn into my passenger door as I passed him in TA22 (write off). Each of them the insurance companies said were 100% the other peoples fault but because each of them didn't have insurance on their cars I had to claim it all on my insurance, so I have to pay the premiums because I made the claims!
That gives me the craps.
On average I write off a car every 18 months (the coralla was my fault but that was 5 years ago so it doesn't count ).

RA28midge what sort of Torana did you have? They are one of my favorite cars. I hope to own an XU-1 one day!!!! Also I thought you could sue the other party for damages to your car. If they were found to be at fault then they have to pay for the cost of the damages to your car. I know of people who haven't had insurance and been at fault so had to pay the other party. If they don't the sheriff comes after them

They had to pay for the crashes but I still have it counting against my insurance record- I can only get insurance for a modified vehicle from 1 company in Australia now. No matter what though any time you crash, whether your fault or someone elses it costs you money.
I had an LC torana, same shape as the XU1, I thought it was pretty stylish, two tone blue with white roof. My grandfather bought it brand new from General Motors in 1972 for $3500 or something . I think that I will get another one to do up next, either that or a Charger or something stupid. I will post a pic of how it ended up tomorrow.

I hate how even when it's not your fault, it still counts against you!!
And yeah. You can claim from the other party. That's what ur insurance company is for (unless u only have 3rd party, then u get to do it urself).

i did have the car examined by a mechanic, but on the grounds of the damage to the car after the accident, there was no way he could prove that the control arm broke prior to hitting the gutter.

LC and LJ's are my favorite. My dad had a bran new LC which he used to do some rallying in and then he bought a LJ XU-1. He bought that in 74, after it raced in Bathurst in 73. I have actually seen shots of it on TV racing. The only mods were a re-spray and the roll cage was taken out. It still had the steel racing rims on.
Unfortunatly it was stolen and striped and there was nothing left of it to salvage.
