What sort of questions?

Going to be shortly committing myself to an engine purchase, what sort of questions should I ask before I make up my mind?
This is the list I have so far:
How many km's does the engine have?
What year GA70 was it from?
What sort of Blitz turbos does it have on it?
Are they attached to the standard manifold?
Does the package come with everything like the alternator and the I/C?
Have you guys personally seen it running?
How long have you had it sitting for?
Can anyone add to that, I'll leave it a few hours before I contact them again.
Thanks

they can easily lie to you man, best thing to do is see for yourself and inspect it in person.

umm, bit hard, they are in Adelaide and I am in Perth...everything costs a fortune here.
Sholdn't be too bad if I can get a warranty.

righto
see tech articles on 1G-GTE versions http://www.toymods.org.au/1g_versions.html
then ask appropriate question about what version u want
also sump config?
water to air or air to air I/cooling?
get them pull out the glove box and see if ECU is in there?

Yeah, done that, already established I want the GA70 version, then I'll be using the front-sump from my 1GEU. Being a GA70 it will have air/air and they have assured me the ECU and everything is still there.
Thanks Rob, any more?

Is it just the engine or a front cut???
If you are buying a front cut make sure they are sending all the little extra bits like radiator and intercooler and all the brake stuff.
The front cut i brought didn't come with a radiator but it wasn't a problem as i need a custom one anyway.
Cheers and good luck with the conversion.

was that the engine from jap motorsport in adelaide?
How are you getting it sent to perth?
It might be too late but do you want someone to go and have a look at it for you?

If you want I can have a bit of a gander at it on saturday morning. If they are open. I am not really sure what in particular I would be able to tell from just looking at it but I guess I can chat to the guys and ask some q's, some people have a harder time lieing to peoples faces than over the phone, although the jap motorsport guys are pretty professional from what I hear.
If you want me to look at it, let me know what you want me to look at and what you want me to ask.
The deal is that you have to let me see the results when I am in perth for the summer though .

Thanks dude, I'll wait and see what they say after this e-mail, if they reply tomorrow, if you don't mind popping around, I'd love it if you could go down and check them out on Saturday.
Just ask the list of questions from the top, plus the bit about the clutch and the leak-down test.
You can come see the car too! I don't know if the engine will be in by the summer, but the body should have progressed a fair bit
Thanks heaps dude

Okay, i spoke to a different guy to who you have been speaking to but they were pretty helpful.
Km's: ?? they generally don't buy above 70K, his guess 35-75k km's
Year:??? early soarer
Turbos: 2 after market Blitz CT12's (aren't CT12's factory toyota???)
Manifold: Standard
Package: Alternator, Power Steering, A/C, Ignitor, coil pack, battery terminals
Running: No haven't seen it run.
Sitting: Shipment b4 last => 4-5 months
Clutch: ??? the gear box and engine haven't been separated so it is there but who knows what condition
AFM: should be there, not sure, wasn't sure whether AFM or MAP.
Engine mounts: yes
ECU plugs: 3 plugs there
Mid rear sump, below the engine mounts.
ECU plugs yellow
Injectors: Grey
The cabin wiring loom has been chopped but is half there.
Gearbox has cast iron sandwich plate, ie W58.
The dizzy cap is not looking healthy.
The front fan is damaged/ shagged
No intercooler but there is some pipe work there.
The engine itself looks pretty clean, wasn't any oil or crap all over it, has yamaha plastic front cover on it.
I don't think you are going to get much of a better package this side of the East coast.
in regards to sump, I may be getting a 1G-GE in the next couple of weeks that has a front sump, and I want mid rear sump, so if you are interested maybe we could do a sump swap?
I hope that this is helpful.
let me know if there is anything I have forgotten.

I've since got another e-mail from them, its from a GA70 Supra.
The turbos are CT12's modified by Blitz, found out how much they are worth too
I'm waiting on them to reply how they want a deposit
As for the sump, planning to use the one from the 1GEU thats already in my Celica XX
Hopefully the dizzy cap is the same as the one I bought for my 1GEU, so that should be cool. Thanks heaps due, I owe you one!

Its going to be a little while before I actually get the thing paid off and in my possession. When are you looking at using this 1GGE by the way?

No probs.
I am awaiting a reply letter from Transport SA as to what i will need to get checked out if i do the swap, so if i get approval without too many hassles, I'll do it in the next few weeks, if I need heaps of engineering, a couple of years.
Good luck, I have your email and i will let you know if i want to discuss the sump further.
