Toyota Nationals-2003?? Thu, 24 October 2002 11:40 Go to next message
Just a question to the toymods board; what's happening with the nationals in 2003 at Dubbo?
I know from talking to some of the guys from the dubbo city car club that they seem quite happy to help out on the events staging side of things.
Just wondering where it was all up to. I have quite a few classicrown members interested and wanting to plan around it....crowns are by their nature slow things so they need to leave in january in order to make it by easter saturday!!!
cheers struan timms.

Are the Nationals actually going to happen this year? haven't they been scrapped for like the last 2 years because of insurance costs?

As far as I'm aware Toymods is steering clear of the toyota nationals this year. We will definitely be organising a big event for that w'end though, so keep your dairy empty.

Because as far as I'm aware toymods has been mucked around for the last 2 years. But please don't take this as the official word.

the nationals have been organised in the past by the celica club of qld and by a contingent of toyota enthusiasts.

it was cancelled for the past two years because of insurance reasons... plans were afoot to try once again but we have not heard the latest on how that is going.

consequently toymods will be planning its own event for that weekend so that we are not faced with another cancelled year.

So i take it that all that means there will be no nationals next year !?
If that's the case then it's a damn shame cos' the event is the best part of thirty years old!! and i know for a fact that the city council is quite happy to have it held there.

That makes the 'All toyota day" in brisbane then the largest single gathering of toyotas in the country with help and assistance from QLD toyota head office and Alan Taylor of the "rising sun collectors register".

So the next question is...what is toymods doing and what plans are afoot?

no offence Danny but that is bloody stupid, whats the point of splitting up the toyota community over a little thing like cancellations?

it was no bodys fault, insurance was to blame, its not like they went and stole your girlfriend.

now because toymods isn't going to make a appearence it seems like the nationals is going to be cancelled again, because toymods is trying to hoard all the toyota enthusiasts to go to their own event. spite??? is there something us regular members dont know???

toymods complains that the nationals was cancelled on them, well boo freakin hoo, that should make us all want to go out there and make the next nationals the best and most popular nationals every held. Why? cause this is an event where theres more than just toymods members there, that means everyone from every club will have a chance to mix and talk toyota.

as struan said, its a damn shame, now rather than being able to go see some REAL toyotas all we are gonna get to see are the same old cars we see every event...

um... no you misunderstood...its not about cancellations... its about insurance... if the nationals organisers can't get it... then the event can't happen... and we can't wait around forever for them to keep trying... how many years should we wait?

by all means lets see them get the event happenning and invite toymods... but this hasn't happenned yet and time is running out

we are making plans on the basis of what has happenned over the last two years and that we are not expecting an invite or the event to happen.

how long do you want us to wait before making our own plans? a week before?

Quote:

now because toymods isn't going to make a appearence it seems like the nationals is going to be cancelled again

our appearance should not be relevant to its cancellation

Quote:

that should make us all want to go out there and make the next nationals the best and most popular nationals every held.

you would have to contact the organisers of the nationals to ask them why this isn't happenning or why know one has heard about it

contact with them in the past has left the impression with us that they 'want to go it alone'

i would like nothing more to see a large gathering of toyotas from around the country... but can't see this one happenning... i would be more than happy to be proved wrong though.

I think from memory, we were only informed a few short weeks prior to the event last year that it could not go ahead. This put everyones plans into disarray and alternative arrangements had to be made (which were exceptional to say the least).

Frankly, the CCCQ could not organise a chook raffle. They have disappointed Toyota Enthusiasts for the past two years running.
It is no wonder that members of this club who put their time and effort into events such as these get disheartened.

No-one can tell me that the CCCQ were not aware of the insurance problems last year, for God's sake, they had a year to sort them out and still could not do it.

Quote:

Well, no offence, that was just a silly comment. Toymods has in no way influenced what is happening with the Toyota Nationals, if it doeas go ahead it will go ahead whether Toymods is there or not - it has for the past 25 or so years!!!The Board has only ever offered assistance to the organisers.
Spite! I think not....Toymods have proven their support for the Nationals by still attending even when they were cancelled the year before last. We were the largest contingent of Toyota Enthusiasts there, It is only thanks to Luke the prior President and Rod the current president, that anyone attended anyway!!! They did it and so did the members that attended for the sole reason that they love Toyota's(from memory, we even got a trophy for the club.

It might be boo hoo to you, but I know it was really annoying and inconvenient the first year the Nationals were cancelled.
Alot of our loyal members were left without accomodation. There was no set agendas etc, we did the best we could, everyone had a great time. Again, Toymods offered assistance. My understanding is that the CCCQ wanted to go it alone, and due to the ongoing Insurance hassles, low and behold it was not held last year either.

Well if you do not like it don't come to whatever is organised, it is your choice, same as it is the clubs choice whether or not to participate in the Nationals.

Rob,

Who crapped in your Cornflakes this morning ? J/K Mate it is good to see you taking a real interest in the club. Once we know what is going on it would be great to see you lend a hand.

ALL,

OK where to start ??

The Last official Toyota Nationals was held in Easter 2000 ! It was also the First Toyota Nationals officially attended by the Toymods Car club (It was the first Easter the club had been formed having been started in 1999)

Easter 2001 saw the Toyota Nationals Cancelled just weeks before the event due to insurance hassels. The Toymods Car club encouraged an unofficial social gathering anyway and those people who bothered to attend by all reports had a great time.

Easter 2002. Once again the Toyota Nationals was cancelled and in an attempt to salvage some form of Toyota Based social We headed to Woolongong for a weekend of talking Toyota. There was very few non Toymods members in attendance Sad

Theres a quick history for you ! Now given Toymods has attended only one of the previous 24 offical Toyota Nationas I don't think our abscence would really make a difference. If it did you think we would have been invited to it by now !

Easter 2003.

Well so far The Toymods car club has received NO offical communication in regards to any other clubs intentions for an Easter Gathering. We have received no information to the board to say they are even close to one being possible ! In fact short of a mention of it in Passing with Phil Ecott the only indication we have had that it is being considered was Paul Holmes post requesting pictures recently placed on our forums.

Here are a few simple Facts for you get your head around !

# The Toymods car club plans its events 3 months in advance (minimum) whenever possible.

# Our current insurance policy is valid till Feb 2003. We have no idea what we will be covered for after this date

# The Toymods Board is there to look after the best interest of its members so if there is no suitable insurance there will be no offical presence.

# The QCCC is Incorporated in QLD NOT NSW. This creates a legal question over the extent to which they can adequatly cover an event in NSW. I am sure it is possible but we would need this to be varified before the club could be officially involved.

# I personally beleive our members deserve better than what can be organised inside a few short weeks so the clubs offical decison re Easter needs to be organised sooner rather than later.

# The Toymods Car club has done as much as possible to encourage the social gathering of Toyota Enthusiasts. We spend alot of time, money and effort to try and maintain I high level of web service to our FREE forums so Toyota enthusiasts and club members can interact and socialise. Its has always been about the social NOT about the money !

# The Toymods Car club Always aims to provide as much enjoyment for as minimal a cost as is realistically possible.

# We would be only to happy to see other Toyota Clubs interact with ours however with the exception of the Nationals where they stand to benefit financially we are shown no interest at all (The Newcastle continjent excluded who to some degree frequent our forums and we will hopefully see alot more of with the coming of Summer) !

And last for now but most importantly. The Toymods Car club has not been invited to attend or offically approached in regards to The Toyota Nationals for 2003.

IF the Toyota Nationals 2003 is correctly INSURED, FINALIZED and DEFINATLY going to happen. Then we will definatly consider making it the official club event for Easter 2003. But we need to know soon or we will have no choice but to make alternate arrangements !

Straun,

Mate we have nothing planned as yet for Easter as we have been awaiting to hear the plight of the Nationals. Should it become necessary we would Love to speak to the members of Classic Crown about getting a worthy gathering underway. Smile

I would just like to add something that everyone else has avoided bringing up.

the first year the nationals was cancelled and toymods still turned up, it transpired that even though our members lost some money thru bookings etc it was asked that the club help bail out financially one of the organising clubs, despite the fact it was our first attendance! we were expected to foot the cost of poor administration, thankfully this ( due to carefull consideration by the board) didnt go ahead.

it has also recently come to my attention that one of the reasons last years nationals wasnt going to go ahead other than the insurance is that the organising committee again asked for a large amount of financial involvement from toymods yet were unwilling to play any finacial part themselves.

now I dont know about the rest of you, but if an event has been organised for 20 odd years no worries and then the organisers are suddenly not only unable to succesfully plan and administer an event, but also are so poorly financed that they have to start asking a club which has only attended one of these events for the bulk of the financial resource to try and prop up the nationals, then dont you all think its time for some new administration and a change in direction?.

just my 2c

Has it been though of or considered by the club that we may look into organising and hosting the Nationals ourselves.

I'm sure if we get a feww of the people very keen for this to happen it can be done. I am willing to help in any way i can,

I'm also sure that if i could speak to my friends at toyota they'd be willing to help, maybe even financaily if they can.

I would be inclined to think that you can not actually own an event unless you registered it as a business.

If they have not done this then i would think it is free for the taking and we could do what we like with it.

Hmmm. I might look into this and if it is the case and its not been registered I'll do it and then get them to pay me royalties if they do get around to staging an event.

That's not really a preferable course of action though. We should be a big happy community of Toyota lovers...

They have organised it for many, many years and should be given the opportunity to continue to try to do so.

But Toymods, as an entity, must be there for its members to be able to provide an alternative if it looks like the Nationals will not happen.

i am very disappointed to hear that the toyota nationals have not happened for the past couple of years. It certainly doesn't make me happy, considering that i just heard about this event today from reading an old Fast FOurs, and was VERY EXCITED about attending such a widely attended event, where Toyota buffs from all over the state and country attend and show fellow enthusiasts and the general public just what hakes us happy.

I hope that we do hear VERY SOON that the nationals will be going ahead, but judging by previous actions by the organisers, it doesn't sound like they are very excited about trying to get the event running again. If it were me that were the organiser, i would certainly be doing a lot more than what it seems they are (aren't) doing. For starters i would at least be contacting every club/social group/internet forum etc telling them how progress is going, and if there is evern a possibility of the event going ahead.

On a separate note, i can't remember what the board has said about Toymod's insurance outside of NSW, because i am interested in going to the "All Toyota Day" in brissy next year, i wondered if Toymods was considering attending at all?

Geez, i got a few of ya's going did'nt I !??

When i was at the QLD all toyota day in brisbane back in june i was chatting to a couple of the guys from the cccq and they were certainly interested to see it happen.

In terms of events and insurance, it is my understanding that if the Dubbo city car club put an event on and officially invited the various toyota clubs to that event...insurance would not be an issue. The dccc is fairly into the drag (racing) scene so the organisation of events is no biggie to them. Thing is you'd want to be getting stuff organised pre-christmas...easter ain't that far away!! I can supply contact details if you're interested.

I don't expect that people will drive to dubbo just for a show and shine only, so i've not got my head in the sand here or anything. My members will show up to just about anything -anywhere...but i have also offered a limited number some free accomodation at my place too.

I don't have contact details for anyone in the cccq...i do talk regularly with Alan Taylor (RSCRA) who organised the 'All toyota day' in brissy .... he knows a few of the cccq guys quite well so there-in lays an avenue for dialoque.

As i've said before..(whilst not a member of toymods) i have no drama's in getting things done on the ground out here in Dubbo for whomever wants a hand. But i can't carry the whole thing guys!

I take the point that we don't want to upset anyone and simply go off and (re) organise the 'Nationals' but it is true that no-one actually owns the event. My honest opinion is if those who have done it before...and done it well save for the last couple of years... don't want to or can't make it happen then as long as they're kept appraised and obviously invited in all good faith, none of them should have a problem with it.

I don't see this as some sort of club one-up-man-ship thing....after all it's only cars we're talking about and Dubbo is a nice place...shit! i might even rain by easter next year if we're lucky.

I was waiting for a few other smaller details to be confirmed before I open my mouth but considering the post it seems like the best time to start telling people that the Toyota Nationals will be going ahead next Easter.

I will post a seperate thread on this shortly but in brief:

* Sponsorship has been confirmed with Toyota being our major sponsor.

* Insurance has been sorted.

* Event will consist of Show and Shine, Motorkhana and Drag Racing inconjunction with the Dubbo City Car Club.

More details will be posted in a new thread later in the week.

From what I have been told, it was originally the Celica Nationals and Celica clubs in various states would have a turn organising it. It got renamed Toyota Nationals when numbers started declining.

As far as I know the Toyota Nationals isn't a registered trademark as it was never really meant to be a big money making event. Maybe that has to change, like the Olympics did.
