I just got a quote from the "toy shop" on a 3sgte for my mr2. ok just got an update...the engine is a gen 1.

price: $2495
Km's: 70,000kms
generation: one
he stated it to be in very good condition..Is there a significant difference between gen 1 and gen 2 engines?

$2500 for a gen2 is not cheap, but not too bad either, they normally go between $1800 and $3. I assume you are referring to the 90 - early93 model, the gen1 3sgte is from a ST165 GT4 only. If the kms are genuine on this gen2 and they'll give you warranty, then it's not too bad a buy.
A gen 3 will cost you anywhere between $3K and $5K, and they're rare as rocking horse sh!t.
The main differences are (and there's a heap more than this) almost all gen3's had LSD, turbo is a CT20B instead of CT26, MAP instead of AFM, 20 more HP, basically a much better 'standard' unit.

I didn't state it before, but this is a complete rear cut, not just the engine..It's a lot cheaper than some of the other places i've asked.

Still a bit pricey. You could pick this package up for as litle as $1600 if you shop around. BTW if it's from an MR2T as it sounds then it must be a Gen II 3SGTE up to 93 or a Gen III post 93. If it's post 93 then i revise my advice and would say that is a very competitive price.

I paid $2200 for a Gen2 MR2T rear cut about 3 years ago from a place in Slacks Creek in Qld.

At that time is was a good price.

Mind had the added bonus of LSD (was option at the time) and TRD Engine mounts.
