How do you tell if you have a viscous LSD ? [4agze]

Hello,
How could you tell if a 4AGZE gearbox had a viscous LSD one or not?
The test I have seen involves hoisting the car into the air, with it in gear, then manually turn one wheel back and forth, the other wheel should follow after an initial 'clunk' - I think this is a test for checking for a 'clutch type' LSD .
A viscous differential needs a speed differential to do any LSD work. Is the 'hand speed' test sufficient? Or would the viscous LSD equipped gearbox just seem like an open differential?
On a lone gearbox, of unknown origin, can you look down the gearboxes drive shaft hole and see anything that would give away a viscous LSD?
Regards, Nick Parker

turning the wheel forward should cause the opposite wheel to turn in the same direction if you have the lsd.
either that or a nice big smoke show will reveal rather quickly

Hmm,
Yes, thats one way, but I'm really looking more along the lines of checking a gearbox thats not installed in a car. I'm hoping there's a way without pulling the gearbox apart!
Cheers, Nick

you can test a viscous lsd by turning one wheel and see if the other one turns or hold the other wheel and see if they both want to turn when you turn one of the wheels.
This works with a viscous lsd as thats how i test mine.
