i dont know how many people have come to the cross roads of having the tough decision of throwing money on their car which they really like or letting it go for a cheap because it will cost alot to fix up.
below are pics of my car.
What it needs for me to fully be happy with it is about 4k worth of work.
that includes
replacing the engine and clutch
respray in red as bonnet and roof are turning pink
and probably throw on an exhaust and muffler and i think it will look the goods. i think its more a q of if i think its worth it or sell it and buy another corolla with everything done
what would you do or have u done

Hi,
You need to ask yourself, "If I sold my car and buyer did it up, and I saw it on the street, looking all smart and great, would I feel massively sad and wished I hadn't of sold it?"
If the answer is "yes", then keep it and do it up yourself, albeit slowly (due to funds or whatever). Otherwise, bite the bullet and sell it - and don't look back, and no regrets.

For me I'm hugely biased as I never wanna sell my car...
But u have to look at the car and think to urself, what problems may i have that i won't already have to deal with by buying another corolla sx...
I'd be lookin at finding cheaper methods for fixing the car if necessary... Maybe u'd respray the car urself, compressor is about $100-200 i think, paint is about $100, etc.. I'd rather drive around in a relatively BAD paint job if i do it myself than pay $1000 ish for someone to do it for me...
Same with the engine, its all free knowledge for urself if u decide to do it...
If u replace the engine the clutch will be easier as the gearbox comes off!
U considered upgrading the engine once ur there???
What were ur plans for the car later on down the track?? Maybe u could use this as an excuse to upgrade the engine...
Frontcuts are usually about $2000 for a 20 valve...
Good luck there..

New engine and clutch? Drop a 4agze in.
Respray the bonnet and roof will result in a car that has a bright red bonnet and roof as the rest will be more faded than they appear, so you'll have to spray the lot.
Only do the exhaust if you have to, or if you drop a 4agze in. Otherwise it's a waste of money turning it into a fart box.
But it's up to you in the end. You could sell it and experience another model of toyota, or you could keep it as the devil you know..... (in other words, you know what needs to be fixed on this one with no surprises).

i know the idea hurts... but flog it off.
Buy something a little more fun or a little nicer with the extra dollars.
For around $6-10k there are some very nice cars to be had - just look in the cars for sale section!
