2T won't idle

just driving home normally tonight, not fanging it or anything and pulled up at the lights and my 2T stalled, and continued to do so. still drives fine, temp was normal (~85-90) no loss of power or any other clues but it just wont hold idle.
i played with the idle speed screw and it had no effect at all, the auto-choke is functioning normally, all the vacuum hoses are connected (dunno about leaks, this was a bit spontanious i rekon)
only thing i can think of is the fuel pump, there were some knocking noises going on at idle when it was working, but these have been going on for ages and im pretty sure its the fan bearing causing them.
anyone got any ideas?

check coil and dizzy... is it electronic dizzy or points? i had this in mine and the points were gone/burnt
also dizzy cap... is it clean? no corrosion?
when the car is on remove the sprak plug leads one by one and check them against the strut tower to see if there is good spark and continual even sprak
fuel pump as mentioned, fuel filter... try some carby cleaner aswell

I say that points are your most likely culprit (just to echo fade e )

points are fine, and i changed the fuel filter. still wont idle. guess it must be a vacuum leak somewhere, i tightned the intake manifold, guess i'll pull the carb apart next. bugger.

dont pull the carbs apart yet! get some of that 'start ya bastard', start the car and have it revving at bout 2k and spray that stuff...
you will see them turn from black to sprakling... its awsome stuff

its already clean, i drowned the sucker in de-greaser unless some of the idle bypass holes are still clogged up... it's a Solex downdraught, i dont know where those little passages are. is that carbie cleaner any different to normal de-greaser? ive used it before, but it was twice the price and did the same thing as far as i could tell.

de-greaser is corrosive to alloy (possibly copper?) so if there are any alloy parts in the carbs expect them to be clogged with corrosion. Should either use carby cleaner or petrol when cleaning carbs

on top of that degreaser will dry up all the seals and gaskets pretty much imediately... it is highly NOT recommendd to use degreaser! now carby cleaner is like degreaser but has completely different % of chemicals to make it less volatile and less harmful to the cylinders
it may be possible that you need to rebuild the carbs... also it may be more expensive to get carby cleaner but they are quite different
this is not something you should really try as these are dangerous to your skin but if you were to spray one hand with degreaser and the other with carby cleaner then you would notice that the hand with degreaser will be VERY VERY dry and the skin may crack almost immediately compared to the other hand with the carby cleaner

Is the idle jet blocked?

it started to idle again today, only sometimes and at a fairly low speed (500rpm) which is odd coz i have never got it to idle that low with this cam (280 degree in & ex). i rekon there might just be a bit of sludge in the idle bypass/jet.
so carby cleaners the go eh? i'll give it a shot
