Just doing some thinking. anyone seen this conversion done?
How long is the RB20 in comparison to other I6 engines? and in comp to the 18RG?
Cheers.

Well, considering the 1JZ has been stuffed in (I don't say it's a top conversion or anything...) I don't see the RB20 being impossible or anything - although many around here will probably slaughter you for not suggesting using a 1G

well I keep reading that the 1G is a no no due to its length in a TA22. So just interested in the length of an RB20.

the 1g goes in but its a very tight squeeze, have seen it a couple of times.
myself would love to see a rb20 or 25 conversion. i'm sure its possible but may have to move the fire wall

not necessarily have to move the firewall but rather relocate the radiator to the front of the radiator support... this then in turn prevents you being able to have a FMIC of a good size for the power output
also if you had an FMIC it would firstly be a small one but if you went and put a big one then i dont think you would be able to register it as it would interfere with the front bumper bar... also it is unlikely that the bonnet would open due to it being a forward opening type

i reccon it would be a pretty tight fit. iv just finished helping my mate put RB20 into his R31 and then looking at my 1g in my celica it seems the RB is longer. would be phat if you can do it though.
i did consider it origionaly for my ra28 aswell but the ease of the 1g conversion just made the RB20 more work than its worth i thought

A 1JZ will NOT fit in a TA22 without major surgery. You can get away with it an an RA23 by moving the radiator, but the TA22's engine bay is significantly shorter so it's not going to happen.
RB series engines are a similar size to JZ series engines, so no it's not feasible, and even if it was, why would you even bother? If you're going to all the hassle of installing a six cylinder engine, why go for the weakest possible six cylinder engine you can find?

on a more serious note: dude have a look around at some other ta22 convo's...the 3tgte and the 3sgte are able to be fitted in. even the 3sgte has issues for length!

If you want to use a nissan motor, then the SR or FJ 4 cylinders are great motors. The RB20 is just an econo version of a RB25 and they ain't all that special in standard form.
Take a look in an engine importers and compare a 1G to a RB20. The head size on an RB20 is huge. I would be very surprised if it would fit a 22 without major persuasion. Having said that, if you really want to put it in, it could be made to fit.
