Next winton fun day 17-7-05
|

Hey all,
thought id start a new thread as the other "winton" thread is getting long enough now
now, theres plenty of time to prepare for this, so no excuses!
Mates and i will head up the night before, stay in benalla, have a few drinks, bbq etc, then tis just a 5min drive up the road to the track.
At the caravan park theres cabins that sleep, 6-7ppl, if ya can fill one of them, its roughly $20each for the night, which is pretty cheap really.
anyways, lets try and get a good number there this time! not just two or three Toyota's.
when: July 17th 05`
where: Winton race way (10mins from benalla) 2.5hrs? from melb
cost: $20 for the day

Well you can pencil me in. I'll be there unless I have a track day elsewhere. Anyone wanting to try there car on a track should get to this one as you'll learn alot about your car and your driving.

no club, any tom, dick or September_Squall (in your case ) can come
its a fun day, for new members to come test there care, get the feel for a race track, and just have some fun.
no real req. so long as you have an over flow bottle, half decent seat belts, and your battary is tied down well, thats all they really care about.
hopefully we can get a few toymoders there this time, could be good, still got plenty of time to arrange things also

First look at thread and when I was writing this I was like, wtf, isnt the 17th a tuesday.. OMFG ITS IN JULY ahahhaha. I think by then I should have 4ag though, and an LSD if all goes to plan with this job I'm meant to be getting.

September_Squall, good idea, thats what me and my mates done last time, stayed like 2-5mins from the track, and it was only $15 for the night (for a 6ppl cabin) had a bbq, hit the piss, was a great weekend
it says scrutineering opens at 8, but yeh, prolly like 7 we got there at around quater past 7 and ppl were getting scrutineered then.
its best to get there early i reckon, get through scrutineering before the line is like mega long, get a good park down near the fence etc
Phrostbyte, if ya didnt notice, i posted this on "Sat, 29 January 2005 21:50" and bugger leaving at 5am, thats a big day of driving dude, should come up the saturday and stay with everyone else.
should actually make it a toymods meet ?!?!

Just thought I'd bump this up and say that I'm keen. The date is set on July 17th? Does anyone know a doctor that could write me a dodgy MC? I'll need to take my Sunday morning shift off if I am to stay there Sat night.
Clarification: Do I need a helmet?

I cant find the sheet with the info on it any more, But i have a feeling this might be in June?
i cant remember, i'll have to see if a mate has a flyer.
Yian, yes you do need a helmet, just one with a sticker on the back (aus standards or something i think it is, its usually a chrome sticker)

Would be nice if you could confirm, when you can, whether its in June or July.
Helmet's gunna be a slut to find. Too cheap to buy one so it looks like I might have to borrow one *mmmm.... someone else's sweat smell*

I was going to offer you one of my helmets but mine were pre-Australian Standards (pre-1993 *Correct me the year of the legislation came in) helmets...

who needs a flyer when we have the internet!
i went and checked wintons webpage and it's the 17th of july for this one. labled as "FUNDAY".
here's the link
http://www.wintonraceway.com.au/?page=calendar
anyway I should be there along with my god buddy rinmax. not sure which car I'll be bring weather I'll be in the ke-20 or the ke-35. depends if I do some suspension upgrades to the 35 then I'll take that.

I would like to have a go on track, so this is pencilled in the calendar.
Cabins and a later start Sunday sounds like the way to play it.
I've heard these fundays are pretty busy. Any indication of how much track time you get? 5 laps? 50 laps?

ok - just got off the phone with engineer - he says once tuned in - shes right to go for sprints with the current brakes - just have to take it easy as they are a bit down - as soon as they start to fade off - just come in and let it rest for a bit
he also mentioned theres a strong chance i MAY be able to get the big brakes on before hand - so that will be extra extra good!
now i gotta source a helmet and im set to go

We now have a pernana v8 - and a fully restored rs2000 to choose from for the rally too - purchased that for friend 2 weeks ago - mike can vouch for teh awesomeness od the rs2000 - its red though - not yellow like the perana
BTW guys - what things do you need in the car to get it cleared -just a few notes of clarification again for those readying to go!
fire extinguisher ?
bonnet straps ?
radiator overflow bottle ?
helmet ?
Clean jocks ?

Ok - bad news , though thats no surprise
HPC only got my IC pipes today - they wont be finished till late this week which leaves me no time to have my car tuned and ready to go ( needs re dyno tuning before its actually drivable 100% after frontmount and latest round of tinkering )
Soo looks like im sitting it out again sadly - but theres always the next one i guess.
Ill be using the weekend in question to get her on the dyno and fix the niggles i have electronics wise - and get a proper power figure with new ECU and upped boost

Preppin myself, I still might be able to come up... Now something disturbing about Calder, they don't allow anyone unlicenced on the track... Does the same rule apply at Winton? Wouldn't wanna drive the whole way up there and then find out I can't get on the track anyway >.<
One bolt on each of my front seats are a bit loose too, they gonna care much about that? There are still 3 bolts on each seat that are nice...
Considering some people will be off the track here and there and some people on, anyone willing to lend me a helmet + fire extinguisher for my 30 mins/hour?
Thanks peeps,
Kev.

I'm definitely considerin this...
I've never been on the track before, is there anything i should have done before? Are there going to be a hell of a lot of quick cars, i don't wanna get in the way is all...
Are there just toyota's or a collection of other makes..
Would we be advised on how to let faster drivers get past?
Can we have passengers?
What time would we meet on the 17th
Thanx for the Q answering!!!

My main concern is that this day will only be a 'trot around the track' type of day.
I know that it isnt timed but I would still like to give it a red hot go.
Does anyone know what sorta day it will be regarding the pace of the cars? Is it going to be a take-it-slow day or are we allowed to go fast without going flat out?
I'm very tempted as I need new tyres anyway.
Cheers

They ask that you only drive at 90% which is fine when there are others around you, but once you get some track to yourself who's gonna complain. I found that when I went in feb I got heaps of track to myself in the afternoon, I think the best run was around 5 laps without having to pass or be passed. As long as your not stupid then you can just do your own pace.

Ok, my battery is held in place atm with cable ties (still uses the battery brace thing but uses cable ties instead of those metal hook line things) and as is the radiator over flow bottle. Both are secure however.
Do you all think I will pass?

Dude's without seeing the cars how can we tell you that you'll pass or not. I mean if its an issue then why don't you fix it anyway, if it's not an issue then its all cool. As for the "don't pass in corners" that went out the window on the first lap when a Rex creapped around the outside of me round the sweeper. So its best just to go and see what everyone else does.

I've installed a POD filter recently and I cant find a way to anchor the battery down properly as its been moved slightly. I cant see how I can do it using the standard battery anchors but I'll see what I can do.
I think I'll be making my way up there if I can get a helmet in time.
