the 206kw figure for the turbo is 280bhp - the gentlemen's agreement. real power figures are closer to 320bhp at the fly (350 for the vvti version!)

Not saying i dont belive u greg but i thought the turbo ones and vvti ones wernt quite that powerfull, i wonder if anyone has actually dynoed a stock TT or a vvti TT, obvious the power would be less as it would be at the rear wheels.

I'm going off a webpage, not 1st hand experience - but all other figures on the page have been reliable to date
but if a 2.5L 1jz can make 280bhp, it would make sense that a 3L 2jz could make 320bhp?

Maybe the increased dispalcement is more for the torque?
The power would be greater, but that is ignored

Im a bit of a noob, but is that why the 1JZ's run so rich from stock? As a way to limit the power so it can fit under that 280hp limit?

the "limit" is a gentleman's agreement - lots of cars go over it (2jz, rb26 as just 2 examples).

Toyota ECUs are generally programmed over-rich to protect the engines. A little extra fuel helps defend against pinging, which is a sure fire way of putting a hole through a piston or similar damage. Mind you, my 1JZ is stupidly rich. Dyno graph shows AFR going below 10:1... couldn't measure any less than that, but the clouds of black smoke convinced me it was a very low ratio

gt4s (stock) are fairly sluggish
plus a gt4 and a supra are kinda different feels of car - what do you want in a car?

The Gentlemen's agreement states that car manufacturers will not release a car that has over 280hp in the interest of keeping society safe. That is why in Japan cars like the GT-R Skyline, Lancer GSR and RZ Supra etc. are all "magically" 280hp.
The Supra is rated 280hp in Japan and 320hp in the USA. Now I know the Supra in Japan is higher than that figure but I'm pretty sure JDM MKIV Supras are less than 320hp because the American ones are said to be more powerful because they have steel turbos as opposed to Japan's ceramic ones and if the US-spec Supras are 320hp the JDM ones will have to be a little less.
I wish I had my own 'big fat torque monster'
