Interchanging a 1G Gearbox with other W58 Type Boxes?

I have a friend who has stuffed his 1G gearbox. Quotes from the various importers are $650 for a 1G whereas he can get one from a RA60/65 for $295.
Does anyone know if the Australian spec celica/ corona box will bolt to the 1G bellhousing?

Yes, it will. Note the shifter position may be different, but it's relatively straightforward to do a swap.

The 2wd hilux W58 bolts up, but the gearing isn't really suited to a high powered car. Unless you like spinning wheels.
