if your modding an n/a engine though which in turn should be a crap load more expensive than modding a turbo one, i would assume cash wouldnt be so much of an issue..

werd

dont forget to add 2x exhaust manifolds, a set of 8 rather than 6 throttle bodies, 32 vs 24 buckets, springs, retainers and valves... *shudders*

and also, im not sure a decent ITB setup would sit properly under the hood with decent airflow. would need a rather unko (and $$) intake system...

so, the v8 is, as i prefer to say, a FUCKLOAD more exxy than a 6. that, and i can get 2jz bit without too much issue (and can source parts from other 6cyl engines)

on top of all that, though, i think 350hp is the upper limit of what id like to be putting through the box, diff and half shafts. if i went to 4L, we'd be looking at 450hp, and im not happy with that.

ed

PS - dont assume i have infite cash. youd be suprised the budget on which the 7m, and now the 2jz were/will be built

If I get a nice cash injection between then and now (which I highly highly doubt), then the 1uz will be all cammed up.

nathan - theres PLENTY of sins in it dude, im just not showing them off Very Happy

but to be honest, for "dodgy bros painting services", im pretty happy, so i can live with the mistakes... except one - i need to respray under the bump strip on the passenger side with clear.

i used some stone guard, and on the passenger side, it came out WAT too coarse, and looks like SHITE - need to fill in the low points with gobs of clear paint to try and smoothe it out a little

2jz? just about to head out and buy a plenum right now Nod

the new plenum

almost big enough to have come fitted on some small commercial aircraft

matches up eerily well to the rb26 throttle bodies Rolling Eyes

it needs a bit of work to re-orient the inlet downwards (due to swapping the intake side over R to L) but that shouldnt prove too much of a hassle.

note the beautiful internal ribbing. the bell into each runner is also beautiful. a bit of work with the dremel and a flap wheel, and this will be schmicko!

some pics of the rear rotors/hubs and handbrake drums as machined up by Mr Jason 'bubbles' Myers himself - thanks !! Nod

rotor is jzz30 308mm x 18mm

internal handbrake drum is ms112 with the rotor machined off, seen neatly sitting inside the jzz30 rotor drum

hub is ms123, central spigot machined down a few mm, then a larger hub centric wheel collar has been pressed on. rotor and drum centre holes have been machined open to fit (4thou clearance)

longer studs are from a hilux at PNPL for $0ea (8mm longer than stock)

http://iamfrank.ath.cx/brakes/images/29122004%20003.jpg

good links for studs are here:

http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=60067&prevloaded=1&rid=92&S=27ae3290 af05a5aa40370c72e8457f23&rev=&reveal=& start=0&count=20

http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=44988&rid=162&S=49ad7a55ebf0085e26568551 53deb526&pl_view=&start=0#msg_407417

offset due to the fiting of the internal drum is increased about 7-8mm or so. this allows good clearance of the jzz30 rotor which happens to be deeper than stock by about 7-8mm - good planning!!

combined with +0 offset rims, brings total track increase up to around 15-16mm per side

will be making brackets for the r33 calipers some time in the next few weeks...

cheers

Looking good there Ed.

The MS112 drum fits in there quite nicely. Good plan.

I have another set of Rays 17x8" +10 offset rims as a spare set !!!

Can't wait to see yours all up in its new paint job.

Cheers

So let me get this straight, are you are using a MS112 handbrake set up or does the caliper have an intgral handbrake?

He has machined off the disc of the MS112 disc so that he can use the MA61 handbarke (unmodified) and slipped the JZA80 rear disc on top (the JZA80 handbrake drum ID is 190mm vs MA61 169mm)

Rear caliper is the std R33/Z32 twin piston caliper.

shucks, thanks Embarassed

it seems really simple looking at it now, but it took almost an entire day, with much conversation between myself and baaacchhhyyyy to actually figure it out...

...but damn it works well. and no need for any handbrake modifications. no scratching, squealing, zero clearance issues. it all just goes together. and 308mm on the back is nothing to complain about Smile

cheers
ed

It also eliminates the need for the rear calipers to be spaced to fit the rotor width.

In hindsight, this would have also been my preferred option, but my conversion was already done.

Hopefully my handbrake works well enough .....

it ALSO keeps the handbrake drum dust lip interface in the correct position... so no more dusty asbestos rims from my foooly hekitk handbrake dorrifto actions

How does the disc go being spaced out further on the studs, I guess the disc doesn't normally sit tight on the studs anyway. Have you spoken to an engineer about it, I guess on one hand you have put the studs in bending but on the other you have more studs to take load.

Good work ED/bbaacchhyy. Nice to see people thinking outside the square.

Re: Ed's MA-61 Supra Tue, 05 April 2005 01:42 Go to previous messageGo to next message
the rotor now sits 8mm further out, but think about it... when braking - where is the braking torque transfered?: from the rotor, into the stud, into the wheel... then from the centreline of the wheel, back into the hub/chasis

there is no change in the relationship of the rotor to the wheel, thus the bending forces/shear on the studs is the same.

the problem lies in the distance of the wheel from the hub, but i think with 5 studs, good support around the studs between the wheel and the hub, and the hub centric ring, one would incounter minimal problems

So your now using a solid disc? or are they just misleading photos. The photos up the top of the page shows ventilated discs.
