OK my 1986 Twincam 16v rolla (4AGE TVIS MAP)is miss firing all the time, its not in a pattern just at ramdom. It also stalls some times at lights, special if the cooling fan comes on and i dont give it some revs it will just stall.

I have replaced the spark plugs and yes i checked the gap.
Replaced spark plug leads.
Dizzy Cap and Rotor.
Fuel Filter.
My tafe teacher and a machanic checked for air leaks around the intake system.
Oxygen Sensor. (the one in the exhaust manifold, not sure if thats the only one).
The machanic said to get the injectors cleaned either after or before i change the oxygen sensor. So i'm getting them done next week.

Machanic thinks that if its not the injectors that its probably the ECU and i dont want to have to replace that.

Is it hard to get the injectors out because it will save me about $60 if i take them out. What are the steps in doing so??

Anyone got any other ideas of what could be wrong???

PS i maybe able to get a recording of it miss firing.
Thanks Brett

check the wire from the coil to the points and make sure its a good connection, had that be a problem once but is your car one those weird ones with the coil inside the distributor? if so i have no idea Rolling Eyes maybe check fuel pump,

also run some injector cleaner through the tank thats fixed all my engine problems a few times.

One of my earths has been replaced a little while ago and the rest look ok.
Oh yeah it has also had the alternator re-conditioned.
New Battery.

I'm so puzzled at what it could be.

my corona used to do this, ESPECIALLY when you put the power down. turned out being a distributor cap. as the tooth thing was turning it was old and not connecting with the 4 wires properly, cost me $40 for the mechanic to replace it and it went fine till i rammed it up the ass of someone else

OK I removed the injectors today and took them in for a clean which cost me $40 each that included all new O rings and rubbers.
It seems to have a better pick up and acceleration but still miss fires and goes to stall when fan comes on. Isn't the ECU meant to pick up a change in voltage and make the alternator work harder or something like that??
Could it be a leak in the exhaust system and with the 2 1/4 from CAT back be making it sound louder??

When the fan cuts in, does it slow does momentarily, which is made louder by the exhaust, then the idle speed stabilise over a few seconds, or does it cough its guts up? Because any car with an electric fan will slow down for a sec as the fan cuts in.

The other day the idle went down and tried to pick up but just stalled. Most of the time it goes down and gets to the point were your like yep its going to stall and then comes back up and if u dont give it revs it will do it again but stall.

Sounds like an ECU problem - random irregular stalling if not one of the problems you listed and checked below - then I guess you are looking at a new ECU. But don't just settle for a new ECU, if your ECU was fried by some kind of electrical fault/surge, then you would be really brassed off if you had to replace it again if it goes crap after a while because the same thing happens again.

Could be your coil as stated above somewhere, also might pay to check your fuel pressure?

If you have a coil pack type coil, Then make sure it is earthed to the body real well still!!!

I had insane problems because mine wasnt earthed well enough!
