corona advice Tue, 01 February 2005 12:26 Go to next message
hi guys
a bit of background:
i recently acquired an 81 corona xx sedan (xt130). my mate didnt want it anymore and asked if i did, seeing as i had plenty of space in the yard, i thought why not i might need it for parts or something some day

anyways, 2yrs or so later i started to wonder if it still works. got it started (ask me in reply if u wnana know how that went) but when driving it around i noticed when first taking off or reapplying throttle after lifting off, drive takes a while to kick in ie. the engine revs like in neutral, b4 it starts moving. (its an auto btw).

any one help me troubleshoot and diagnose the problem?

i dont really want to take it to a mechanic seeing as redbook tells me the car is worth 800-1800 and they usually overprice, so i dont wanna spent to0 much money on it.

would it be worth it to source a tranmission from a wrecker or a recondidtioned one, if that is the problem? there are no real other problems. (u can ask me if ud like me to list em, i dont wanna make a long post unnecessarily longer).

thanks for any info at all

yeah it looked fine. a couple of ml above low.

my dad says might be clutch, but another guy says its the gearbox. any way to distinguish between clutch slippage or transmission problems?

so its an auto but it might be the clutch slipping???

i think you mean the internal clutch packs in the trans.
did you check the trans oil with the car running and a warm trans??? cause if you checked it with the motor off, that means nothing.

older trans could mean slippage, which basically means the trans is cactus. ensure correct oil level, and if still doing it then id be heading toward trans internals.
probably need rebuild or changeover trans....
